A Day Out At Glasfryn Parc, North Wales

In terms of what is on offer and value for money, then a day out at Glasfryn Parc, North Wales is one of the best. There were 13 of us altogether, 9 of which were children, it was cold and wet and so naturally we were expecting a challenging day! How wrong we were…

The parking is very easy and the distance to the centre is minimal (all important things to consider with so many half pints in the mix). There is one central reception desk from which you buy tickets for everything they have on offer; with boys that have found a new love of karting this summer, we went for this; £6 for 6 mins. It doesn’t sound very long, but in actual fact it is a long 6 minutes and depending on how many people are there in the queue, the whole experience takes approx an hour.

Once you have your receipt, head over to a changing room. Its a bit of a bun fight to grab an overall, but I liked the fact that it was so low key and you just help yourself; no suits fitted and there were a lot of rolled up legs and arms, but adds to the whole experience! Straight over to the queue and wait your turn.

There are two tracks; one for adults only and one juniors – if you have an under 8, there are double karts so an adult can drive with the young ones. Be aware however, the steering wheel on the kiddies side is not a dummy wheel; its real which I found out whilst drifting around a corner! Although not an official race, they do place you in your group which of course was very important for the boys. The most telling part of any ‘activity’ is the children’s response and despite a 30 – 40 min wait in the queue, they all came off begging to go around again.. and to be honest, having sat out and been the bag / coat holder, watching first time around, I was dying to be a co-pilot with one of the younger ones second time round even if I did get lapped 4 times by my son…

But karting is only a small part of what is on offer at Glasfryn Parc. They have quad biking, wake-boarding, clay pigeon shooting, kayaking, archery along with ten pin bowling, pool tables and a soft play area. A cafe and gift / sweet / ice-cream shop are all also on offer. We took a picnic with us and there are benches on site that you can sit and soak up the atmosphere.

So my experience of the park was great; I really enjoyed the realaxed atmospere of a place offering activities which normally can be a bit stuffy and clouded in health and safety rules and regulations; don’t get me wrong, these were covered, but just in a friendly and relaxed manner. From experience, £12 per head for entertainment lasting 4 hours with children in the mix, is great value for money (add in the fact it was cold and wet, its real value was priceless) and the range of activities was impressive.
