Cute Two Bedroom Holiday Cottage Near Porthmadog | Capel-Prenteg

Near BeachNear Pub

Capel Prenteg is a cute, two bedroom holiday cottage near Porthmadog. With beautiful views of the Snowdonia mountains, it is a great little retreat for exploring the area. Placed along the route of the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highlands Railway, the sound of the steam train from the garden could not be more idyllic.

The modern renovation of a section of this old chapel makes great use of the space, creating a more roomy feel and look than you normally get with these older buildings. As you come through the front door, the kitchen is on your left and the sitting room on your right with stairs leading to the first floor directly from the front hallway.

The kitchen is a galley style kitchen with slate floors and modern white, high gloss units - despite not being the largest of kitchens due to the nature of the building, it has everything you need for your stay here, including a washing machine. It is well laid out and with new appliances, a very workable space. There is a dining table and chairs through the opening from the kitchen into the hallway.

The sitting room has more of those beautiful views from the windows. A nice room with plenty of seating for everyone to enjoy their downtime and of course a TV where you can all congregate at the end of the day to watch a film.

Upstairs you will find a double and a twin room. Carpeted throughout, both rooms have a lovely feel to them and where you certainly get your rest and relaxation in. The family bathroom with shower over bath arrangement, WC and washbasin is all on the floor.

The cottage is on the outskirts of Tremadog - the hometown of Laurence Arabia would you believe! It’s a really lovely village with a couple of pubs with fantastic reputations for the food they offer as well as an award winning fish and chip shop - you'll be spoilt for choice!

If you like climbing, then Tremadog is a real climbers paradise and you find a lot of choice within a relatively short distance. There is also an Osprey Wildlife Sanctuary you can visit in the village of Prenteg itself. Set up by the local community, it works to protect the Glaslyn Valley Ospreys.

Porthmadog is a lovely harbour town where you'll find all the main food shops along with a high street full of independent shops. The harbour has a selection of restaurants and cafes and from here, a short 15 minute walk will bring you into the village of Borth a Gest where you'll find beaches and a couple of traditional style cafes. Portmeirion Village is also just 10 minutes outside of Porthmadog and a great place to visit.

In the other direction from the cottage, you will come to Beddgelert. A very popular village in the heart of Snowdonia. Beautiful rivers and walks to be had, it’s definitely not to be missed. If you are into adventure and outdoor sports, you could not be better placed to enjoy the activities on offer - gorge walking, climbing, walking, kayaking, white water rafting, canyoning, SUP etc are all readily available throughout the area from a number of different activity providers around the area.

You are 40 minutes from the foot of Snowdon, Forest Coaster and Zip World and an hour from Adventure Parc Snowdonia and Coed Y Brenin. Caernarfon is only 30 minutes up the road. So as you can see you are well placed to take full advantage of seeing the area.

Had a lovely week in this cottage, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Made to feel welcome by Catherine. The views are beautiful from the patio and we were able to have our breakfast out there a couple of mornings. Great place.

Just got back from lovely few days at this cottage and would highly recommend it to anyone. It was immaculate and very comfortable, and it felt like everything had been thought of inside the cottage. Perfect location also to get to various areas of Snowdonia, and not far from places like Harlech and Barmouth.
Thank you for a lovely stay!

The cottage is well situated, near Porthmadog, Portmeirion and about 35-45miles from Caernarfon and Beaumaris (Menai Bridge/Brittania Bridge over to Anglesey).
The cottage is very cosy, clean, suitable for a family with two small children (the twin beds are more a kin with children’s bunk bed mattresses – for two well endowed ladies, a type of medieval torture).
The host and hostess could not be more friendly – really lovely location and good value, although a little on the snug side.

We had a lovely time in this superb cottage everything was just perfect great area and very peaceful would love to stay again thanks Catherine and Arthur

Had a lovely week with fabulous weather in Arthur and Catherine’s immaculate holiday cottage ! So cosy and comfortable with magnificent views right from the patio. Very quiet and peaceful but so close to Porthmadog and beautiful Borth Y Gest. Beddgelert only five miles up the road. We absolutely loved it here. The only problem as always is that the week goes by so quickly ! Highly recommended.

This cottage is in the most beautiful, peaceful setting – the views from the patio are amazing! The cottage was the perfect base for us to explore both the coast and inland. It was spotlessly clean on arrival and we had a warm welcome from Catherine who was just lovely with us and our children. There’s a small spa shop just a few minutes drive away and you’re only ten mins drive from Porthmadog which has all the usual supermarkets! If you have a lazy morning take a five minute walk down to the Osprey site – lovely volunteers there telling you all about the birds along the river! And look out for the steam train too! We had a great stay and wouldn’t hesitate to go back!

We absolutely loved it here, the best location with so much on your doorstep. The cottage was super clean and amazingly well equipped. I would come back here time and again, Catherine is an awesome host nothing is too much trouble. The family next door were so friendly with the most beautiful loving black dog called Umph!!! Just loved our holiday, it was the hottest weather I’d ever experienced in Wales I’m sure. Can’t say anything negative at all. Even the owner of the Spar in Tremadog was so welcoming.

Our last day at Ty Capel and we have nothing but amazing memories, met by Catherine and shown the cottage, everything was clean and immaculate, very comfortable stay, great locality for hikes away from the main “touristy” trails, 10 minute walk to the Ospreys at Glaslyn, 3 miles from Nantmor & the Aberglaslyn pass, and at the end of a days hiking, nothing better than sitting outside the cottage and enjoying the views of Cnicht & The Moelwyns.
Well done Arthur & Catherine x

had a lovely short break in very comfortable immaculate cottage.

Very enjoyable stay in comfortable, clean and tidy accommodation. Nice views sitting and having a cuppa after a days walking. Handy location for mountain and coastal walks.
