Romantic One Bedroom Cottage Near The Beach | Derwen

Near PubNear BeachReal Fire

Derwen is a romantic one bedroom cottage near the beach in the seaside town of Fairbourne. This traditional stone cottage has been beautifully renovated into a very elegant space yet remains homely which will make it a very appealing bolt hole for those looking for a luxury break.

Entering through the front door brings you into an open plan sitting room and dining area with an impressive oak spiral staircase up to the first floor. The large wood burner takes centre stage in this room which gives warmth to the minimal, yet very stylish interior. Slate floors, oak beams, large sofa and lovely furniture pieces all work towards giving this space a very comfortable feel; the tide clock will no doubt come in handy when planning your beach walks and the surround sound system is going to turn those DVD evenings into more of a cinema experience!

The galley kitchen at the end of the house has everything you will need and expect, including hob, oven, dishwasher etc. along with a waterfilter tap. The finish is in-keeping with the rest of the cottage; modern and minimal with a homely feel.

Up the spiral staircase takes us to a beautiful bedroom with apex ceiling, creating a lovely sense of space and light. The arched doorway to the bathroom adds to the charm of this room. Simple oak furniture and bed linen all work well together to create a very calming space. The two large wardrobes provide plenty of storage space and the remote controlled velux windows and blackout blinds will certainly help you get a good nights sleep.

The en-suite bathroom has a large walk in digital rain shower; modern fittings combined with oak fixtures again fit with the rest of the house.

The garden, home to exotic plants like jasmine, passion flowers, palms and banana plants is a lovely place to relax when taking in the evening sun with a drink on the patio.

Derwen is located near the beach in Fairbourne, a lovely seaside town situated on the south bank of the Mawddach Estuary. The blue flag beach makes for great beach days and is especially good for watersports such as windsurfing and sailing. The famous Fairbourne Narrow Gauge Steam Railway still runs daily.

This part of southern Snowdonia has spectacular landscape making it a walkers paradise. Less crowded than the slopes of Snowdon, the mountains in this part of the national park provide a real opportunity to explore the true wilderness of Wales.

A short 10 minute drive will take you into the more populated town of Dolgellau. Steeped in welsh history the town hosts a farmers market and is home to some delightful shops cafes and pubs.

Corris, another nearby village, has the well known ‘Centre for Alternative Technology’ as well as a small craft village and ‘King Arthurs Labyrinth’, an underground tour certain to capture a child’s imagination. The popular seaside towns of Aberdyfi and Towyn are a short drive to the south west. Bala, to the east, is famous for its fishing and whitewater rafting and the world renowned mountain biking trails of Coed Y Brenin are about 30 minutes to the north.

Many thanks for your lovely review Helen and Neil.

We are pleased you found a new area of Wales to explore and that you loved the cottage. Thanks for the bathroom compliments. It is definitely a place to linger longer!

You were delightful guests and we hope to see you again in the future.

Also, keep an eye open for our new property coming on board with Dioni in September. Sleeps 4. Also wonderful for 2. It is called “The Old Library”. Full of history and in the beautiful village of Llanbedr with the best view in town, looking straight over the river, bridge and the Victoria Inn. Very luxurious. We all deserve a bit of affordable luxury!

Best wishes

The cottage is gorgeous ! Very clean and modern with everything you need for a relaxing week away from home.
I especially loved the bath and walk in shower !
We’re very familiar with North Wales but it was lovely to come to a different area which has lots to do and some great walks and amazing scenery.
The weather was a bit mixed but we didn’t mind and it was quite a relief after the hot weather in the south.
Many thanks to John & Jo for the lovely treats !

We have fallen in love with this cottage! Very warm, cosy and clean and everything is of an exceptional quality. Although on a main road, it’s very quiet and a great place to relax and unwind. The welcome gifts were a nice addition and really appreciated. Lovely places to visit nearby by car, train or a nice walk. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend break and highly recommend this cottage.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review Sukhjinder. We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your short break at Tan Y Dderwen.

We are pleased that you liked the cottage and found lots of interesting things to do.

Many thanks for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy. We hope to welcome you back again-maybe you will be able to linger longer next time. The cottage is lovely all year round for both short and longer breaks. Very nice in the Winter with the large fireplace and log burner. It has a very festive feel in the Winter.

With our Best Wishes

The cottage was lovely – warm and confortable. The high specifications of the bathroom, lights and surround-sound ststem make the place a real treat. Both John and Jo were very helpful when we made enquiries about local places that have gluten free food. The special touches of tea, coffee, milk, prosecco and GLUTEN FREE chocolate cake were very welcome. The area has lots to do, with walks, a railway station, close proximity to Barmouth and places like Portmeirion too. John and Jo have provided a folder full of information as well as plenty of leaflets under the coffee table which make planning activities so easy.
We enjoyed our short break. Thank you Jo and John.
