Traditional Stone Holiday Cottage In Cwm Nantcol | Glandwr

Glandwr is a traditional stone holiday cottage in Cwm Nantcol above the picturesque village of Llanbedr in North Wales. This three-bedroom cottage on the banks of the river Artro is within easy reach of both the mountains and the sea and provides a great base for families wanting to explore this lovely part of Eryri (Snowdonia)

A spacious kitchen/diner houses a traditional country cottage style kitchen on a quarry tile floor. A traditional Aga type oven provides the heat and hot water and large robust dining table provides plenty of room for family meals. The large picture window in front of the sink will help mum and dad keep an eye on the children playing in the back garden as they tidy everything away after diner.

The lounge next door is equally spacious with two large sofas flanking a warming log burner set within the original inglenook fireplace. Exposed beams and whitewashed stone walls are complemented by more modern lighting and a flat screen TV. The adjoining conservatory is a great space to escape to on warm summer evenings.

There are three bedrooms upstairs. The largest master bedroom has a wonderful king-sized bed centrally located under a vaulted roof. Plenty of storage space is provided and the window has a lovely view of the back garden. The bedroom next door is quite a bit smaller but still has room for a double bed. The third bedroom is a charming single room with a Victorian style bed. The bathroom is also on this first floor. This includes a shower over bath arrangement as well as a WC and washbasin.

Location

Llanbedr, a 10 minute walk from the cottage, is a very friendly and picturesque village on the Cambrian coast road just south of Harlech. There are a couple of pubs, a cafe and grocery store in the village. Another 10 minute walk from there will bring you down to the famous beaches at Shell Island.

Ten minutes away by car, the towns of Harlech and Barmouth offer a larger choice of restaurants and shops. Lot’s of adventure type activities around, including white water rafting, mountain biking, pony trekking etc. Others might enjoy more cultured attractions. The medieval castles, prehistoric structures, and narrow gauge railways that dot a landscape steeped in history.

Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) and her sisters are a 30 minute drive away. But, if you’re a keen walker, Cwm Nantcol and the Rhinog Mountains just behind the cottage remains one of the UK’s true wildernesses. The mountains here are arguably every bit as spectacular, but benefit from being a bit more undiscovered. At the moment at least.

We had a wonderful holiday staying at Glandwr cottage which is perfectly situated for walks, cycling or trips to the beach (the one near Harlech is particularly spectacular and almost deserted). The cottage is comfortable and cozy, well equipped and beautifully furnished. The kitchen is kept warm by an oil fired stove which also heats the water and there is a log burner in the lounge for those chilly evenings. The outside space is good too with a large garden, spacious patio, and a garden room. Highly recommended!

Staying at Glandwr Cottage feels like a vacation back in time. The atmosphere of this historical cottage with its beautiful garden is perfect. It is surrounded by a magic forest full of ferns and gurgling creeks. The traditional furnishings of the rooms and the watercolor paintings of Snowdonia harmoniously combine to produce a feeling of peace and seclusion. At the same time there are many beautiful destinations for a day trip. Coming from Germany we enjoyed cooking traditional pies in the great kitchen from Sarah Edingtons “Traditional Recipe Book” and having Tea and Cucumber Sandwiches in the lovely little garden pavillion. The two weeks were over too soon, and if possible we would return in some years for the complete holiday.

Glandwr is, without a shadow of doubt, the best holiday cottage we have stayed in!
The cottage, and gardens, are so picturesque & quaint, I could happily have moved in forever 😉
Every room is equipped with all you could need & more.
The lovely welcome goodies are so generous & welcoming on arrival.
The location is idyllic, situated in beautiful woodlands, alongside the river.
The surrounding area is perfect for exploring fabulous beaches, awesome mountains, and lush green woodland & river walks.
There is an abundance of places to eat and shop within a short distance of the cottage, leaving you wanting for nothing!
This truly is a fabulous, comfortable, quiet place to stay. Thank you so much for an amazing week ☺️

We had a really wonderful week at Glandwr Cottage. The cottage is cosy, comfortable and the kitchen has everything we needed, this really makes a difference so we didn’t have to go and buy the basics. On arrival there was some shortbread and a pint of milk, this was very much appreciated. The cottage is in such an idyllic spot, nestled in woodland and with the river just in front of the house, it also has the most beautiful wild enclosed garden, which was perfect for our dog, he loved it! I loved the little summerhouse, so peaceful to sit and listen to the sound of the river. There is also a great area at the back for a barbecue, kind of rough and ready but charming. There are loads of great walks from the cottage and beautiful beaches a short drive away, there are also a few pubs in the village, a bit of a walk away but doable. We fell in love with this place and really felt we were just getting settled before we had to leave, so we’ll definitely be back!

Two wonderful weeks for our familiy in a paradise like garden and in a very cosy and tidy welsh cottage! Just a great place to be. We would have loved to stay longer. It felt like home right from the beginning.
Our three kids and us thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Plenty of room, great surroundings and a lot to discover.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful cottage with us and for the warm welcome with fresh flowers.

It’s been years since we spent any quality time in North Wales. We’d been looking forward to a proper escape and we were not disappointed. Glandwr cottage is as quirky and comfortable as it is picturesque, perfectly located for a family or small group to enjoy the peace and quiet, as well as Llanbedr village, Shell Island dunes, Harlech with its castle and independent shops and eateries, Barmouth for all the fun of the seaside, wonderful walks at Nantcol waterfalls, and a bit of wild swimming in the high lakes. Snowdon too is also close at hand, although we didn’t venture there ourselves.

The cottage and garden are everything you could possibly ask for, well stocked and maintained, so cosy and peaceful with the river flowing by across the road, so beautiful that when asked by passing walkers if we were lucky enough to live here, we really regretted not being able to say yes.

Highly recommended, and we hope to return.

Beautiful location and a lovely cottage. Only small gripes are the erratic parking of the next door neighbour making it impossible to park in our two allocated spaces. Had to park vehicle further up road. Washing machine wasn’t working and could do with more than 1 towel per person. Otherwise a lovely clean well presented cottage in an area we know well and never disappoints.

Had a wonderful week here, very peaceful location in the woods, but only 20 mins walk to the village shop and local pub and hotel. Many local walks (see notice board outside Victora Inn) and enjoyed visiting the waterfalls. We had a lovely cycle ride from Barmouth to Dolgellau, and a great day out in Harlech. Cottage very comfortable and wonderful garden to relax in. Hope to come again.
