A spacious and bright property, Gwel-y-Gest is a fabulous modern renovated old coach house in lovely grounds, situated near Porthmadog. With three bedrooms sleeping six, as well as two bathrooms, this lovely converted property is ideal for a coastal holiday in North Wales with good access to nearby towns and stunning beaches.

The main doorway into the property opens into a central kitchen area which is bright and airy, thanks to full height windows and a fully glazed doorway. With counters to both sides and an island return there is plenty of storage and prep space for self-caterers wanting to cook up hearty meals. A large freestanding fridge freezer sits next to kitchen units which are finished in bright white with wooden worktops. With an electric hob and built in oven, dishwasher and washing machine alongside a microwave, kettle and toaster, the kitchen is well equipped with a spacious layout. White floor tiles are laid throughout the space, and beyond the rear island counter a short corridor leads to the main family bathroom. The bathroom, simply finished in white, includes a bathtub with shower over, WC and basin.

From the kitchen, two steps lead up to a fabulous double height lounge diner. This wonderful socialising space is great to gather in the evenings to catch up on the day’s activities, or to congregate around the large glass dining table for a home cooked breakfast before setting out for the day. The lounge space includes a large leather sofa and two armchairs, finished in grey, located around a stylish oval glass coffee table. A Smart TV is located in the corner next to a small arched window, and the room also features full height windows and a door leading out onto a paved patio area. The pitched ceiling of this full height space adds character and charm, where in contrast, bright and bold artwork on the walls add modern touches.

To the opposite end of the modern renovated old coach house in lovely grounds, the ground floor bedroom of the property includes an en-suite shower room. A large divan bed with leather bedhead sits between two bedside tables and lamps, with a white chest of drawers located in the corner. A pattered bedspread and full length curtains add texture and colour to the room. A TV is mounted on the wall of the bedroom. The spacious en-suite is finished in white with a corner walk in shower cubicle alongside a WC and basin.

The two first floor bedrooms are accessed via two separate staircases, one from the hallway and the other from the lounge area. A set of open stairs lead up from the lounge into a large double room built into the eaves of Gwel-y-Gest. This wonderful airy space is decorated in muted earthy colours, with a bed located centrally against a feature wall flanked by bedside cabinets with table lamps. With a cosy nook housing a side chair, and ample clothes storage, the room is well lit by a large velux window allowing plenty of natural light to flood in. The second first floor bedroom, accessed via the hallway, is a sizeable twin room featuring two single beds, bedside cabinets and clothes storage. Once again, located in the eaves, the high ceilings provide a great sense of space.

Beyond the coach house, a short path leads up a slope to a second private garden area surrounded by mature trees and shrubs. From this delightful raised area there are impressive views across the Glaslyn Estuary in the direction of Portmeirion, with the picturesque village of Borth y Gest just glimpsed through the trees. A small decked area with picnic table and garden recliners offers a tranquil spot to relax and soak up the wonderful surrounding.

Location

Location is key for this modern renovated old coach house in lovely grounds. As well as having stunning scenery on the doorstep, the property includes a small outdoor space directly outside featuring a patio area with firepit. There is also access to beautiful private garden areas which overlook the Dwyryd Estuary and Borth-y-Gest, providing fabulous views.

A short walk from the property leads to the pretty seaside village of Borth-y-Gest with its colourful buildings dotted along the seafront, including a lovely cafe and bistro. A coastal walk from the main village through woodland leads to a stunning secluded cove with golden sands and crystal clear waters. It's a perfect spot for a dip or sunbathing in the summer, or a brisk winter walk. The coastal path continues to the larger Morfa Bychan beach (Black Rock Sands) - a beautiful expanse of sandy beach. Summer days can get busy down here, but if you want bring supplies along, it's possible to park directly on the beach here too if the walk is too much. The views from Morfa Bychan stretch from the Llyn Peninsula and Criccieth Castle along the coast of Bae Ceredigion, with a stunning mountain backdrop.

Heading inland from Gwel-y-Gest, the town of Porthmadog is a very short drive away, or a fifteen minute walk. A pretty harbour town with independent shops, restaurants and cafes, it's a great place to head for a night out, or to stop off for supplies at the Tesco Extra supermarket. Beer lovers should call into Purple Moose Brewery for some local brews. Porthmadog also provides access to the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways, where you can take in some of the most spectacular scenery in Eryri (Snowdonia). Beyond Porthmadog, the Italianate village of Portmeirion is the must visit attraction in the area. The village, constructed in the 1920's, is home to picturesque and colourful Italian style buildings, colonnades and squares and was the filming location for The Prisoner TV series in the 1960s.

It's only a 20 minute drive from Gwel-y-Gest to the heart of Eryri, where you can visit pretty mountain villages such as Beddgelert, or embark on scenic walks and hikes to suit any fitness level and skills. Experienced hikers can head for the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) by foot, while others can choose take the Mountain Railway to the summit. Whether it's mountain adventures, adrenalin adventures or a relaxing coastal holiday, this property is located perfectly to enjoy everything the area has to offer.

A lovely week in a beautiful spot! The private garden has beautiful views. We enjoyed being able to walk into Borth Y Gest and explore the coastal path. House was clean and comfortable, and host was welcoming and friendly.

We had a lovely week at Gwel-y-Gest. Gwyn made us very welcome and was quick to sort out a few things which needed attention.

The property could have been cleaner when we arrived and it needs some investment in maintenance. We couldn’t make the family bathroom towel rail work, the towels need to be replaced and somebody needs to go round with a screwdriver! The gutter overflowed in heavy rain and it looks like down pipe is blocked. None of this spoiled our week and could be sorted out quickly.
