Traditional Farmhouse Holiday Cottage in a Quiet Location | Hendre

X6
Real FireFarm Stay
Criccieth

Hendre is a traditional farmhouse holiday cottage in a quiet location near the wonderful seaside town of Criccieth in North Wales. A peaceful and tranquil setting but only a short drive to all the fun and activities that Snowdonia has to offer.

This 3 bedroom stone farmhouse (and a small disused barn) is at the end of a long private drive. Mature shrubs and garden surround the cottage but we’ll start by walking through the front door into the kitchen diner. Like all the rooms in the house this is a very generously sized room. A large pine table and matching chairs sits on a tiled floor overlooked by a traditional welsh dresser. All the tableware is of the finest Portmeirion crockery. Solid oak kitchen units line the far end of the room covered with a granite worktop with matching tiles.

We duck under the low doorway to get into the original part of the house and the sitting room. A welcoming log fire sits within the original inglenook fireplace at one end of the room. Plenty of comfortable chairs and sofas and lots of room for the whole family to spread out in.

Before heading up stairs the cottage has one more bonus room. A small wooden sauna brings the best of Scandinavia to this traditional welsh farmhouse. The essential shower cubicle stands next to the sauna.

Three bedrooms upstairs. Two doubles and a twin. All the bedrooms are, again, very generous and both double bedrooms have large en-suite bathrooms. There is also a single family bathroom for the twin room. Each bedroom has a fantastic uninterrupted view of the surrounding countryside. The beds and linen are of the highest quality and everything is maintained to a very high standard.

Location

The house benefits from a small patio area with outdoor furniture and two separate lawned areas with mature shrubs along the boarders. The surrounding fields of pasture and trees are dotted with the occasional cow or sheep.

The seaside town of Criccieth is about 5 minutes away in the car and is the home of the famous Cadwalders ice cream parlour. The perfect compliment to a walk along the beach or a tour of the historic Criccieth castle.

The harbour town of Pwllheli is a little further to the west, a lively bustling town in summer with lots of shops, pubs and restaurants. A little further along the coast brings you to the fashionable village of Abersoch. More golden beaches and more pubs and restaurants.

A short drive to the east will bring to the mountains of Snowdonia. Cwm Pennant and a climb up the Nantlle Ridge is one of the hidden gems of the National Park and is easily reached from the cottage. Walkers might also enjoy the newly established Welsh Coastal Path. The sections near this cottage must be among the most picturesque of this 870 mile long uninterrupted route along the welsh coastline.

Lots of activities in the area. Traditional pastimes such as golf, horse-riding and steam train trips. Family days out at the nearby Dwyfor Ranch Pet Farm or Glasfryn Park adventure centre. And also more breath taking attractions such as zip line rides and mountain biking.

Had a great holiday, cottage very comfortable and well equipped, owner called by a couple of times once to greet and once to empty bin, very nice lady, cottage isolated down a narrow lane, but I loved the seclusion, easy to reach any area so location for me was perfect, I will definitely be using Dioni again my daughter has used Dioni for years and has never had a problem.

We have spent a week at this fabulous cottage. The location is remote but within a 10 min drive of Porthmadog. Very clean and well maintained property with a stunning outlook across the fields. We loved the spacious rooms and sauna. Quality fixtures and furnishings. It was lovely to meet Annwen on arrival and we couldn’t have felt more at home. Thanks for an amazing holiday.

We spent 4 nights in the cottage. Everything was clean and tidy. The property is located in a remote location yet very atmospheric and beautiful. We enjoyed a lot the spacious living room, the fireplace and the sauna.
I would definitely recommend it!
Thanks a lot!

We had a fantastic week here in September 2021. The property is massive and of extremely high spec – the bathrooms, kitchen and sauna are exceptionally well-designed and immaculately clean. The huge living room is country-cottage cosy, while the outdoor space is very well maintained and allows you to sit either in full sun or shade as you prefer — and look over the fence at the cows, who were very entertaining to watch when in the field nearby. There is also the lovely sound of the stream at the end of the field.
We did plenty of local footpath walks nearby, and swam at Criccieth and also drove up to beautiful bays on the north side of the Llyn Peninsula – some of the best British coastal swimming I’ve ever done.
The setting is very peaceful and secluded but it is an easy drive to Port Madoc, where we did our major shop for the week.

We had a fabulous weekend break at Hendre cottage.
Loved everything about it – the peacefullness and tranquility was just what we needed.
The cottage was spotless – spacious and had all that we needed. Met Anwen the owner who was lovely. I know that area very well as i spent lots of holidays round and about Criccieth – Porthmadog etc…
We will return – maybe in the winter and woukd highly recommend this property.

We had a wonderful family holiday with our new baby grandson and his parents.
Hendre is a beautiful home with everything you need. Clean and comfy. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. Perfect position for all we wanted to do and we loved the isolation it was so peaceful. We will miss the cows as our neighbours.
We really had a good holiday but we were concerned that the hot water was only just adequate, the oven hob washing machine (couldn’t find out how to use the dryer) were satisfactory. We would love to come again next spring but are concerned that we couldn’t find any controls for the central heating. We are not complaining we really did have a great time . It’s a fantastic place to stay.
Thank you

We spent two weeks at Hendre farmhouse and we really enjoyed it. It is a peaceful and calm place surrounded by a lovely landscape, the house is spatious, comfortable, clean and very well equipped and it was nice to meet the owner, who welcomed us and was really helpful. Our holyday was relaxing and anyhow exciting, the seashore and Snowdonia are nearby. It is a great place for making trips to the mountains and other interesting sites and in the evening you can relax in a Nordic sauna.

Lovely house but we felt too cut off. We did not like the lane, felt very unsafe and were nearly hit by a van as we turned into it.
