Lovingly Renovated Quarrymans Cottage In Rhyd Ddu | Iorwerth House

Near PubReal Fire

A large inglenook fireplace complete with log burner greets you as you come through the front door. The predominantly modern style furniture fits really well in this room alongside the exposed stonework and individual character pieces which you will find dotted around the house.

Through into a galley kitchen where you will find everything you need during your stay. New farm style kitchen units alongside modern appliances will make cooking for your holiday group a joy. The large fridge freezer is also a welcome touch.

The dining room is home to an amazing dining table, a real show piece of the room. The log burner will make this a beautiful room to while away the evenings after dinner, especially in the winter.

Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms; 2 double rooms and 2 single rooms. All the bedrooms, as you would expect, have been beautifully refurbished with one of the doubles having the added luxury of a balcony overlooking the stunning rear garden which in turn leads your eye up to the slopes of Snowdon. Lovely furniture and soft furnishing give the bedrooms a very clean and airy feel. The family bathroom is also located on this floor with a shower over the bath.

The outside space of this cottage is really pretty. Stone steps from the kitchen leads you up onto a grass area through a lovely path of ever green foliage, so if you are into gardening, the array of plants here, will be of interest.

The village of Rhyd Ddu gives its name to one of the more popular Snowdon paths and so if you are staying here, climbing the biggest mountain in Wales (and England) will probably be on your list of things to do. No having to think about parking and getting on the Sherpa bus here, the garden gate leads to the Rhyd Ddu and Snowdon Range path while the Nantlle Ridge path is only a few minutes walk away.

Being in Rhyd Ddu, you are a stones throw from one of the calling points for the Ffestiniog Welsh Highland railway which will take you to Porthmadog in one direction and Caernarfon in the other. There is also a lovely cafe in the village to get your morning coffee of afternoon tea and cake.

You are also very well placed to explore the other great towns and villages in the area. Llanberis is home to Electric Mountain and the National Slate Museum, Beddgelert has some lovely cafes and gift shops, and Betws Y Coed is home to the famous Swallow Waterfalls. Activities like Zip World and Surf Snowdonia are within a 30 minute drive. There are also plenty of watersports available to take part in on the lakes along with the obvious walking and cycling opportunities available here.

We have arrived home after a wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage. Everything is of high quality to make for a really comfortable stay even with the Covid restrictions. The home is clean, well equipped within the kitchen. (champagne glasses would be an extra bonus). The home is welcoming with lovely diffusers and a fire ready for lighting. The local pub was great and has lovely food. The garden is on different levels and it is absolutely magical to sit in the top garden looking up to the stars with no light pollution, totally stunning. We were lucky with wonderful weather, very warm and sunny and Snowdonia outside the back gate makes the start of the climb easy. Many Thanks, we will be back.

We had a great stay at your lovely cottage, thank you! The facilities were excellent. We particularly appreciated the comfortable beds and the beautiful view of Snowdon from the picnic table at the top of the garden. The highlight of our holiday was being able to take the Rhyd-ddu / South Ridge paths up Snowdon (straight from the cottage) – quiet, with few people until the summit and beautiful views. We also enjoyed some great beaches – Dinas Dinlle, Black Rock Sands and Harlech – all large beaches where we found the social distancing was fine. Although there was no parking attached to the property, we didn’t find it a problem to drop off our luggage at the house and then park just along the road.

We stayed at Iorwerth House over New Year and had a great holiday. The house is great, furnished to a high and tasteful standard and very well equipped. We had brought with us a few extra things for cooking but needn’t have bothered as there was everything we needed e.g. big enough pots and pans for six people! The location is fabulous, a real get away from it all place, but with the convenience of a good pub down the road and easy access to lots of interesting places across north Wales, including the fantastic heritage railway which has a station in the village. Having Snowdon ‘in the back garden’ was great! But if high level walks aren’t your thing then loads of lovely walking/ running routes straight from the door. Thoroughly recommend Iorwerth House!

We stayed here in mid-June and the cottage was lovely, beautifully refurbished, cosy and spacious. The location is perfect with open views to the summit of Snowdon from the spectacular rear garden and direct access to the Rhydd Ddu path. We climbed up this way, returned down the Rangers path and blagged a lift back to the cottage from a very friendly and helpful visitor at the YHA! If you don’t fancy an uphill trek there is a stunning path from opposite the station all the way to Beddgelert (about 5 miles) and if you time it right you can treat yourself to an ice cream and catch the steam train back. Two minutes from the cottage is the Ty Mawr tea room which serves amazing breakfasts, pancakes, coffee and homemade cake. The owners, Emma and Mennon are fabulous, warm, welcoming and helpful … highly recommended! The cottage itself is very comfortable and well-equipped and we would definitely book again, having Sky Q available in the evenings was a definite bonus, especially as lots of programmes are already sitting on the planner ready to watch! Just a small note of caution – having stayed many times in Beddgelert we (wrongly!) assumed that the mobile signal would be the same. In fact there is absolutely no signal in the village but the wi-fi in the cottage is excellent and steady and so using WhatsApp or Skype is fine … but tricky if, like us, you have elderly parents that need to get hold of you! One other thing that would be really helpful at the cottage would be a washing line … when the weather was fine we would really like to have hung our washing out but there was nowhere to do it. However, both small issues that can be overcome and overall a lovely place to have a holiday – congrats to the owners who have clearly put a lot of work and thought into the place and it is stunning – especially the shower which I didn’t want to get out of!

We have just returned from a wonderful 4 night stay at Iorwerth House, Rhyd Ddu. Set at the foot of Snowdon, it is ideally located in a walker’s paradise! The recently renovated cottage is beautifully furnished and thoughtfully equipped – all in all, 5 stars! The garden is stunning, with the walk to Snowdon via the (fairly challenging) Rhyd Ddu path from the back gate! We also walked to Beddgelert and then on up Moel Hebog and back, again without moving the car. We feel very lucky to have found such a perfect place to stay and will definitely be returning to explore more of Snowdonia.

We had a fantastic family break. The cottage is very comfortable and relaxing the garden was absolutely stunning and being able to walk out of garden and up Snowdon was a real treat. The village was cosy and the local welcoming and served great food we all enjoyed, they even have takeaway beer boxes which my husband thought was brilliant and hadn’t come across before. Fires were on lots both in the living and dining room and kept the cottage super cosy in mornings and at night. Logs available from pub also. Lots to do within short distances and views and location stunning. Thank you.
