Two Bedroom Holiday Cottage On The Banks of The River Dwyfor | Melin-Dwyfor

Location, location, location is the word for this property. Set on the banks of the river Dwyfor this beautiful, two bedroom, ground floor cottage has Swallows and Amazons written all over it! From whiling away your days fishing for salmon or swimming down the river, there is plenty to do while staying at the cottage. A short, 5 minute drive will bring you to the popular seaside town of Criccieth where you’ll find beautiful beaches, great restaurants and cafes and the castle of course.

The property itself is located on the ground floor of a beautiful, traditional, stone cottage. The entrance brings you into the open plan kitchen, sitting room and dining room. Recently renovated, the look and feel of the room is modern and minimal with lots of splashes of colour that add to the ambience and feel to the room.

The grey hues of the kitchen units and tiles work really well to separate it from the rest of the room and there is everything you need to cater for your group - it’s perfect for a family of four. The sitting room area has plenty of comfy seating and the log burner effect fire gives the room its warm and cosy feel that many look for in a hideaway cottage in Wales.

The double and twin rooms are inkeeping with the rest of the house; a minimal feel but with great soft furnishings which bring warmth and they are both carpeted whereas the rest of the cottage has floorboards. The beds are incredibly inviting and a good nights sleep is sure to be on the cards here. The double bed can also be made up as twin beds at request. Waking up to the beautiful views of the garden and river are just an added bonus.

There is a family bathroom which has a walk-in shower, WC and washbasin.

Location

At the cottage itself, there is a private patio area with table and chairs. You also have access to the beautiful gardens which run down onto the banks of the river. The cottage comes with a fishing licence which enables guests to spend time fishing for salmon if they so wish. The river is also safe to swim in making it a great place to spend some time.

5 minutes in the car to the south is Criccieth. A great seaside town where there are plenty of places to eat and drink along with the famous castle, and the stunning beaches which are great for swimming off.

A little further along the coast will bring you to Pwllheli which is a larger town and where you can spend days sailing from the marina - there is a market on Thursdays and again, plenty of places to eat and drink. The Llyn Peninsula has lots on offer with lots of stunning beaches and hidden coves to discover and beautiful small towns and villages, including Abersoch and Nefyn.

Portmierion Village is 20 minutes away in Porthmadog along with the Welsh Highlands steam train which will take you through the mountains to Caernarfon. Further inland are the Snowdonia mountains and lakes where you can take part in outdoor and water sport activities - there are lots of activity providers that can make a day in the mountains truly memorable. Zip world and Slate mountain are based in Blaenau Ffestiniog and a great place to spend the day. Towns like Betws Y Coed, Beddgelert and Llanberis are all must have places to visit and are within an hour’s drive from the cottage.

What an extraordinarily beautiful place! The apartment, the house, the terrace, the garden, the walk by the river, it couldn’t have been more beautiful for us. Thank you Mel and Jim for your hospitality, especially Jim, who helped us with problems with the car and found us a repair shop to repair the car on Saturdays. This saved our vacation. All the best from Germany!

The property is in a great location for visiting the Llŷn Peninsula, Snowdonia and even Anglesey – we fell in love with North Wales on this holiday. The accommodation was comfortable, well equipped, and the garden and river were just lovely. The owners (who live above the apartment) were really helpful and friendly.

We had the most wonderful stay at this beautiful cottage. The location is stunning and so peaceful. The accommodation itself is really lovely and has everything you need (and more!). Super comfortable beds!! Mel and Jim were so welcoming and made us feel absolutely at home. They were also super helpful with recommendations for walking and some great local restaurants to try. Such lovely hosts which adds that extra special magic. We would definitely highly recommend a stay here… Mel and Jim thank you so much! We will be back!

What a fantastic home! Mel & Jim were the warmest, most helpful hosts we’ve come across. The home was impeccably clean, with small extra amenities that made the stay special. The beds were just as comfortable as what you’d find in a 5 star hotel! Our dog was also made to feel extremely welcome. The real highlight is the stunning garden and river, which you can experience in full by just stepping out the door. We highly recommend getting some of their honey grown on the property, it’s delicious!

A beautiful little property, in an idyllic location overlooking the river. Lovely grounds, with access to river walks and beyond. The property itself was cosy, immaculate and well equipped with everything we needed. Jim and Mel were great hosts and provided us with lots of local knowledge. The perfect base from which to explore the North Wales/Snowdonia area, which has so much to offer. We will be back.

Just returned from a wonderful, restful time and Melin Dwyfor. The property location is a show stopper: close to Criccieth but also on the bank of the river. Even in the wet, autumn weather, the location was stunning…as was listening to the rain and river. The property is well equipped with a good selection of basics provided e.g. foil! Upon arrival, the apartment was spotless. We will definitely return again in the future. Mel and Jim were such lovely hosts- as was Rhodri the dog! The one and only thing that I would have liked would be a bath to soak in.

Spent a week here is the most beautiful location over looking the river. Our 2 dogs will miss this garden so much as they had such fun exploring all the smells outside. The apartment was well equipped and the hosts ever so helpful. Would definitely recommend a visit here and to the gorgeous area around it.

We spent a lovely week at the beginning of September with Hettie our Spinone at this beautiful cottage. Mel and Jim our hosts were very welcoming and enhanced our stay with their local knowledge and recommendations. The cottage was immaculate and comprehensively equipped with very good quality furnishings. The bed in particular was really comfortable and the garden a real joy to sit out in with lovely views over the river. All in all a fantastic place to stay and one we’d love to return to
