Self Catering Accommodation on a Welsh Hill Farm | Stabal-Y-Coed
This fantastic two bedroom barn conversion provided luxurious self catering accommodation on a Welsh hill farm just outside Betws Y Coed in North Wales. The cottage is really stylish inside with all the mod cons you’d expect like hydro electric powered under-floor heating and large flat screen TV. And the location, high up on a hill overlooking a beautiful valley is the cherry on the cake.
A narrow but well maintained mountain road leads guests to Stabal-Iwrch, one of two holiday cottages on the farm. From a large parking area we cross a small private patio through the door into a very spacious lounge. If, like me, you kick off your shoes as you enter, the first thing you notice is how lovely the large welsh slate flagstones feel under your toes, warmed as they are by the under-floor heating system. And as if that wasn’t enough, you can have a roaring fire up and running in the log burner in no time. Perfect after a long walk in the mountains as you relax in the sumptuous leather sofa and arm chair. Modern features like the large flat screen TV and double glazed windows are combined beautifully with more traditional items like the long sideboard and original oak roof trusses. A rear patio door leads to another private patio area. The picnic bench here has fantastic views of the surrounding fields and valley below.
Next door in the kitchen we find the same traditional stylish look and feel combined with the convenience of new appliances. Beautifully restored kitchen units house a modern electric oven and hob, dishwasher and large fridge freezer. A central dining table is surrounded by more contemporary oak dining chairs. Best of all perhaps is the magnificent glazed stone arch that was of course the original entrance to the stable.
All of upstairs has new oak floorboards. There are two bedrooms up here, one double and one twin. The original oak trusses have been maintained and left exposed. See if you can find the original build date of 1851 carved into the one of the cross braces. All the beds and linen are more modern of course. A great nights sleep is almost guaranteed in what is of course a very tranquil location. The double bedroom as a convenient en-suite shower room whilst a slightly larger family bathroom complete with enamelled bath is located on the landing in-between the two bedrooms.
