Self Catering Accommodation on a Welsh Hill Farm | Stabal-Y-Coed

Dog FriendlyNear PubReal FireFarm Stay

This fantastic two bedroom barn conversion provided luxurious self catering accommodation on a Welsh hill farm just outside Betws Y Coed in North Wales. The cottage is really stylish inside with all the mod cons you’d expect like hydro electric powered under-floor heating and large flat screen TV. And the location, high up on a hill overlooking a beautiful valley is the cherry on the cake.

A narrow but well maintained mountain road leads guests to Stabal-Iwrch, one of two holiday cottages on the farm. From a large parking area we cross a small private patio through the door into a very spacious lounge. If, like me, you kick off your shoes as you enter, the first thing you notice is how lovely the large welsh slate flagstones feel under your toes, warmed as they are by the under-floor heating system. And as if that wasn’t enough, you can have a roaring fire up and running in the log burner in no time. Perfect after a long walk in the mountains as you relax in the sumptuous leather sofa and arm chair. Modern features like the large flat screen TV and double glazed windows are combined beautifully with more traditional items like the long sideboard and original oak roof trusses. A rear patio door leads to another private patio area. The picnic bench here has fantastic views of the surrounding fields and valley below.

Next door in the kitchen we find the same traditional stylish look and feel combined with the convenience of new appliances. Beautifully restored kitchen units house a modern electric oven and hob, dishwasher and large fridge freezer. A central dining table is surrounded by more contemporary oak dining chairs. Best of all perhaps is the magnificent glazed stone arch that was of course the original entrance to the stable.

All of upstairs has new oak floorboards. There are two bedrooms up here, one double and one twin. The original oak trusses have been maintained and left exposed. See if you can find the original build date of 1851 carved into the one of the cross braces. All the beds and linen are more modern of course. A great nights sleep is almost guaranteed in what is of course a very tranquil location. The double bedroom as a convenient en-suite shower room whilst a slightly larger family bathroom complete with enamelled bath is located on the landing in-between the two bedrooms.

The cottage is located on a small holding farm near Capel Garmon some 3 miles from the ever popular Betws Y Coed. There are huge advantages to staying on a Welsh hill farm. Not only do you get magnificent views, peace and tranquillity but you also get a taste of that idyllic farming life. The cockerels' proud call in the mornings, the bleating of new born lambs searching for their mothers and the sniffling and snorting of piglets that are just too cute for words.

North Wales and the Eryri (Snowdonia National Park) is fast becoming a mecca for adventure sports of course. Activities such as mountain biking, zip lining, white water rafting and underground adventures can all be enjoyed within half an hours drive of the accommodation.

Historical and cultural attractions are also a big draw for a lot of our guests. Narrow gauge steam railways, historical industrial sites and ancient castles and fortifications are doted all over this part of the world. And a renewed interest in our food and agricultural heritage has led to a resurgence in fine dining and farmers markets.

We had a lovely stay at Stabal-y-Coed, absolutely amazing property and area. The converted barn is traditional but also modern, interior decor is pretty and comfortable. The property is well equipped and lacks of nothing. The house itself is clean, great bathrooms with a nice bath tub. Absolutely loved the Welsh slate tiles on the ground on the lower level. Upper level is where the two bedrooms and bathrooms are, you wake up with a stunning view in one of the bedrooms. Sue and Ioan the owners are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Also the area is perfect for any hiking plans as every attraction and route is easy accessible via the car. A plus is that the property has a little gated back garden area for the dogs which is secure and where they can roam or just lie outside. I recommend to order food shopping to the cottage as the nearest supermarket in Betws y Coed is rather under stocked and over priced. Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury all deliver to the home. Wifi is patchy which was to expect seeing the rural area, phone signal isn’t really there but that’s what we loved as we usually halfway work through our holidays. Overall it’s an amazing holiday home for a family with dog and child and we will not only return but also highly recommend it to others Dioni travellers.

lovely greeting from the owner on arrival, Well equipped and furnished to a high standard throughout. Lovely and quiet location, walks from the farm for the family and dog. Good location to see the surrounding area and enjoy sall that Snowdonia has to offer.

We enjoyed a wonderful short break at the property. It is in a fabulous location away from the rest of the world! The cottage itself was so comfortable and cosy – we didn’t really want to go out. The huge bath below the skylight and also the shower were some of my favourite features, not to mention the thick fluffy towels and ironed sheets! Although the cottage would be lovely in summmer, it is also lovely in autumn as you can take advantage of the log burner. Loved having the full glass doors looking out over the back and also from the twin room. There was enough facilities and equipment so we cooked most nights. The cottage focuses on being eco friendly which is another great plus to it. All in all, can’t recommend it enough.

We had such a great week staying at this cottage which was welcoming, comfortable & had everything we needed. The views are lovely & so nice to sit out on the patio after an enjoyable day out with a glass of wine!
Our grandson absolutely loved it here ‘helping’ with the chickens, sheep & pigs & generally running around safely, thank you so much Sue & Ioan.
Betws-Y-Coed nearby is a lovely village with a good choice of cafes & resturants if you want to eat out. There are so many things to do in this area of North Wales for all ages.
Our family highly recommend this cottage & area.

We had an amazing 4 nights here. It’s a beautiful cottage in a gorgeous location with lots of walks quite literally on your doorstep. The owners couldn’t have been any more helpful and welcoming.

The cottage is really gorgeous inside and instantly felt like home. Probably the nicest place we’ve stayed and we will do our best to return. Thank you.

A well equipped cottage in a fine location; close enough to the best areas of Snowdonia yet feels remote and private. It is furnished in a simple but attractive style. Very cosy for a winter stay. Note the internet connection is pretty slow-not an issue for me but might bother others

Gorgeous place to stay. Warm and friendly hosts who made us feel very welcome and relaxed during our two weeks. Superb amenities and even a joint of lamb and gammon beautifully cooked for us in their aga when we wanted them. Not to be missed! I can totally recommend a stay here, whether you’re planning a quiet holiday, or a place central to all the activities Snowdonia has to offer (or both as we were!) A real gem!

Excellent quality accommodation in rural and quiet location. Hosts very helpful and extremely knowledgeable – a welcome basket of local and fresh cookies was an example of same. Walking from the front door and great walks all within a short drive make the unit very attractive. Plenty of good eateries about – recommend bookings if intend to eat in Betws. Lots of quirky places again within driving distance …..
All in all = 3 extremely happy visitors from Singapore !

We stayed at the cottage for a short 3 night stay, and only wished we could have stayed longer.
We were not only greeted by Sue when we arrived but lots of little lambs!!
The cottage was perfect, spotless, and had everything we needed. The homemade Bara Brith and Welsh cakes were just what we needed after a 7 hr journey. Reminded me of my mum’s baking!
As i know the area as was born and brought up in Wales, we found our way round easily.
Sue and Iuan were always at hand to guide us towards nice places to eat and were so friendly and down to earth.
The weather was not what we wanted and sadly it rained the 2 3 days up there but at least it was warm and the rain did not stop us being out and about.
The setting and scenery are breath taking, what a wonderful setting for a home.
Nel the dog was always around to greet us and was lovely to see the whole family working on the farm.
Thank you Sue and Iuan for your kindness and I envy where you live as to me its perfect and you have a beautiful and welcoming holiday cottage.

Truly had a magnificent stay at the cottage we booked through Dioni. Extremely homey with amazing views and great company. Moreover, the owner Loan was absolutely brilliant. He welcomed us with open arms and catered for and serviced all our needs whilst we resided there. I could not be more grateful for Loan!

Thank you.
