Published on 23 Oct 2014 by Gwion LlwydIf you’re lucky enough to be staying in one of our cottages this half term with children in tow, you’ll be pleased to know that Halloween Snowdonia Style does not involve standing around getting cold and wet watching your kids collect sweets! This is a place steeped in legend and myth so there is lots on offer – we have whittled it down to our top 5 which make for unique and exciting experiences you just won’t get anywhere else……
The Ffestiniog Railway offers twilight railway trips where you board the train in fancy dress at 6pm and are taken into the mountains where you stop off in the dark woods for some fireworks and a little something to eat in the creepy cafe. Prices start from £11.60 for children and £17.50 for adults.
Penryhn Castle just outside Bangor offers a range of activities from day time Halloween trails to the very popular Twilight Tours where you are taken around the castle after dark by the old housekeeper and governess. You need to book in advance through the National Trust website.
Harlech castle and Criccieth castle are putting on spooky Halloween trails during the week. These include pumpkin carving at some of the locations. A family ticket starts from £12.00.
Bodnant Gardens is hosting a spooky night walk on Halloween night. A 1.5 hour walk through the gardens, being told ghostly stories whilst meeting mysterious characters along the way….. Prices start at £6 for adults and £3 for children. There are also Autumn craft workshops from 11am-1pm each day of half term.
If all of the above seem too much for your little ones, try a day out at Greenwood – their Spooktaculer is always a real hit with children (esp under 12) – fancy dress is a must followed by a day of freaky frolics.
If you fall into the over 18 bracket, you might want to go on a real ghost hunt at Bodelwyddan Castle – night hunts run from 9pm to 3am introducing you to the ways of a real ghost hunt using special equipment. So if you’ve ever wanted to be a real Ghost Buster, here’s your chance; tickets start from £40 pp and they have one running on Halloween Night…..
