Rib Ride adventures

Published on 22 Mar 2021 by Amy Greenwood

Fancy a wild ride on the world’s fastest RIB? Head to Anglesey and jump on board with Rib Ride Velocity. Boats leave from Menai Bridge all year round.

If you’re in any way a speed fiend then how could resist a ride on the world’s fastest rigid inflatable boat (RIB) on your next trip to North Wales? This amazing piece of engineering flies up and down the Menai Strait – the body of water which separates Anglesey from mainland Wales – at speeds of up to 80 mph.

Buy your tickets to travel as a group or individuals, and the ride is suitable for adults and children age 10+. There is no set route, but the experienced friendly skippers will travel to the safest areas of water on the Menai Strait before taking Velocity to the fastest speeds possible.

All you need to do is hold on tight and enjoy the force of this amazing boat at full power. To say it is exhilarating is a bit of an understatement – it is absolutely thrilling. You’ll get great views of the Anglesey and mainland coastlines too. The ride lasts around 30 minutes.

Other Rib Ride Adventures and Boat Tours (suitable from age 4+)

You might want a one-hour trip or to charter a boat for the whole day and go around Anglesey. Rib Ride’s boats leave from their base at Menai Bridge, all year round. The crew also offer adventure tours to three beautiful locations:

‘Puffin and Seals’, 1.5-hour trip
If you love bird and seal watching join the Puffin Island Boat Trip to see the amazing bird life and seals at Puffin Island / Ynys Seiriol.

‘Castles and Islands’, 2-hour trip
For the best view of Caernarfon Castle and the wide-open sea scape take this tour to Llanddwyn Island / Ynys Llanddwyn.

‘Bridges and Swellies’ tour, 1-hour trip
Take the ‘classic’ trip under the beautiful bridges spanning the Menai Strait. It’s a real adventure through the swirling swellies.

In the summer months, you can explore two amazing destinations from Holyhead Marina:

‘South Stack and Gogarth’, 1-hour trip

Bring your binoculars to watch beautiful seabirds as they colonise the high cliffs of Anglesey in the early summer months. You might be lucky enough to see guillemots, razorbills, choughs and puffins.

‘The Skerries’, 2-hour trip
It is a trip of a lifetime to see the high cliffs of South Stack, lighthouses and the wild rocky islands of the Skerries. The bird life is truly incredible.

Visitor information

Rib Ride provides life jackets. Passengers should wear soft soled shoes or boots, and warm clothing. Multiple layers are essential, waterproofs advised. In cooler months we recommend a tight fitting hat which won’t blow off too easily! It is easy to book your trip online. Rib Ride departs from Menai Bridge, Anglesey, which is an easy (and short) drive over either of the Menai Bridge crossings from Bangor. Menai Bridge is 15 minutes’ drive from Caernarfon, 25 minutes from Conwy and 40 minutes from Capel Curig.
