SURF SNOWDONIA’S MUD RUN CHALLENGE EVENT IS BACK FOR ITS SECOND YEAR!
Published on 27 Feb 2018 by Gwion LlwydIf you’re a fan of obstacle course racing – now one of the UK’s fastest growing sports – then Waves, Mud and Mountains at Surf Snowdonia might be just what you are looking for.
The mud run challenge is back in North Wales for its second year, and organisers promise it is going to be an event longer, harder and muddier than before! It takes place at world-first inland surf lagoon, Surf Snowdonia, on Saturday 24th March 2018.
Competitors taking part in the 10k Waves, Mud and Mountains course can expect to find themselves pitted against natural and man-made obstacles, including over-water agility tests, a mud-based assault course, ice bath and barrel carry. They will also take on the might of Surf Snowdonia’s wave pool – the biggest in Europe – by running through its powerful man-made waves. Surf Snowdonia says it is the equivalent of pushing against a colossal 6 million gallons of water over a distance of 300 metres!
The challenge concludes with a run up the notoriously steep Dolgarrog Water Pipe incline; a part of the course called the ‘stairway to hell’. Competitors will enjoy sweeping views of the Conwy Valley as they make their descent back to the finish line at Surf Snowdonia. Food, drink and entertainment is promised for the rest of the day in Surf Snowdonia’s water-side bar.
The race is over 18s only, and entry starts at £35 per person, though it’s prices are set to rise incrementally so best to book your place sooner rather than later. You can do that at surfsnowdonia.com.
If you’re tempted by the idea of making a break of it (let’s face it, you will probably need a few days off to recover post race) then you should check out our selection of cottages nearby: DIONI HOLIDAY COTTAGES CONWY, DIONI HOLIDAY COTTAGES BETWS Y COED. You might also want to take a look at our cottages with hot tubs – a great way to soothe your post-event aching muscles! DIONI HOLIDAY COTTAGES HOT TUBS.
A world-first inland surf lagoon, Surf Snowdonia opened in 2015 and its guaranteed man-made waves have seen it attract big name surfers from all over the world – even the co-founder of Google, Larry Page, has called in to have a go! The Surf Snowdonia surf academy offers surf lessons for all ages and abilities from age 5+, and its safe, controlled environment makes it a great place to master the basics on your board. You can hit the waves from £20 (kids) or £30 (adults) per hour, including free board hire. If you’re looking for a unique, fun and exhilarating day out in North Wales we can heartily recommend it!
