Pieces for Places | Retail Therapy In Barmouth Just Hit The ‘Jack’pot!

Pieces For Places is a new furniture come lifestyle store that has just opened on Barmouth High Street. Off the back of seeing lots of people proudly clutching their ‘Pieces for Places’ brown bags this week, I thought I must go and visit. It is the brainchild of Jack Brooks, who when you walk into the shop, clearly has an innate sense of interior design. With his brother Fred, the two have bought the old Caersalem Chapel back to life and installed 3 floors which now house a fabulous eclectic mix of furniture and homewares. The product offering is great and everything is covered, the idea being that you can kit a full house out from this one shop. From sofas, beds and beautiful chests of drawers to the smaller bits like candles, photo frames and vases, there is a lot on offer and everything has clearly been chosen carefully, including a bijou gardening collection! It…

Two Bedroom Seaside Holiday Cottage | Cornel-Glyd

“We were over the moon with our stay at Cornel Glyd. The cottage was beautifully presented, well equipped, and although in a group setting we felt secluded and not overlooked. The short distance to the beach was perfect for our dogs, who enjoyed their holiday as much as we did. We hope as dog owners we gave a good account of ourselves also, and that we would be welcome to return to this holiday venue in the future.” – Karen Anderson, Elan Valley We came here with our two teenage boys last year and we are on the verge of booking again. We had such a nice time; we thought it was only fair that we share our experience you and some of the activities we got up to that made our stay so special. We were looking for somewhere to stay over the summer that was really close to nature and with this cottage being…

Top Christmas holiday cottages with real fire

Family Fun this Christmas

Here are five suggestions for family-friendly activities and events taking place in Meirionnydd during the 2011 Christmas holidays. 1. See a pantomime Pantomime is a lovely Christmas tradition that can be enjoyed by all members of the family, from tots to grandparents. The pantomime at the Dragon Theatre in Barmouth this year, on 28th and 29th December, is Sleeping Beauty. The performance comes courtesy of the Ardudwy Youth and Community Theatre, and tickets – which are available at the door, though it’s advisable to call the theatre to check performance times if the weather is especially bad – cost just £5 for adults, £4 concessions and £15 for a family ticket, which covers two adults and two children. 2. Full steam ahead It may not be quite the Polar Express – you won’t see waiters cartwheeling down the aisles, at any rate – but a trip aboard one of the Talyllyn Railway’s steam trains at Christmas…

Barmouth Walking Festival 2015

Barmouth Walking Festival

The Barmouth Walking Festival is fast approaching once again. It’s a great event organized by the Barmouth Publicity Association and runs from the 18th to the 27th of September. For £7.50 you can join a group of like minded enthusiasts for a guided walk along some fantastic routes. The walk leaders have all been carefully selected and can really add to the experience with their local knowledge of the landscape, history ond nature. There are more than 30 walks to choose from. The price goes down a little if you book 4 days or more. The brochure suggests that there are routes for all abilities. But most of them I would suggest are best suited for people who have done some walking before. 10 miles through the Rhinog Mountains is not for everybody. We’ve had a lot of guests in the past that have really enjoyed the experience despite some sore feet so we highly recommend…
