Surrounded by rolling fields and mature woodland Boethuog is an enchanting character cottage in the heart of South Eryri. From the outside this charming stone cottage looks straight out of a fairytale, but step inside and period character meets 21st century luxury with stylish decor, underfloor heating and rainfall showers blending beautifully with curving walls, exposed beams, cottage style doors and deep window sills. The cottage sleeps up to eight guests in three bedrooms, with a clever layout making the most of the space to provide a generous living room, kitchen-diner, useful utility and two luxurious bathrooms. On the ground floor the hallway opens onto a beautiful, country style kitchen diner, well equipped with a multi slice Dualit toaster, perfect for family breakfasts, an electric oven and an induction hob, microwave, dishwasher and a large fridge. There is a separate freezer is in the utility room.

Next to the kitchen, the living room features a huge inglenook fireplace with a log burner, an L-shaped sofa and armchairs, along with a smart TV and a small selection of books. This gorgeous room provides a cosy place to relax after a day of exploring. At the rear of the property a useful utility with a sink and washing machine makes the ideal space for dogs to spend the night, with underfloor heating to keep them toasty on even the chilliest of evenings.

Also on the ground floor is a spacious double bedroom with a king sized bed and generous en-suite ‘Jack & Jill’ shower room which also works as the downstairs wc with a separate door off the utility room.

Upstairs are two further bedrooms and a family bathroom; the double is a lovely dual aspect room with a king sized bed, chest of drawers and hanging rail, the second bedroom has three full size 3’ single beds, plus a trundle bed which can be pulled out when required, and ample storage with a built-in wardrobe, chest of drawers and shelving built into an alcove.

The luxurious bathroom has a large walk-in shower with rainfall shower head, a double washbasin and a freestanding bath placed by the window which lends itself to long, indulgent baths while enjoying the countryside views. This enchanting character cottage in the heart of South Eryri is set in a lawned garden, surrounded by fields and woodland. The open sided pole barn with tree trunk stools provides an undercover area for watching the night sky, enjoying a glass of wine or toasting marshmallows.

Location

The rural setting of this enchanting character cottage in the heart of South Eryri will appeal to outdoors enthusiasts who can take advantage of the stunning surrounding countryside and spend many happy hours exploring the local area.

Southern Snowdonia is a breathtakingly beautiful region whatever the season, with rugged mountains, lakes and woodlands which offer a wide range of outdoor activities from climbing, coasteering and mountain biking to more leisurely options such as walking, bird-watching and fishing.

Boethuog is located just 20 minutes from Coed y Brenin Forest Park, a haven for mountain biking and hiking enthusiasts which also has family friendly trails catering to a variety of ability levels. The Mawddach Trail, a 9 mile route along the disused railway line between Dolgellau and Barmouth, offers a traffic-free walking or cycling trail with stunning views of the Mawddach Estuary and mountains beyond. For something a little more challenging, experienced hikers venture to Cadair Idris, the distinctly shaped mountain whose peaks can be seen for miles around.

The pretty market town of Dolgellau, with more listed buildings than any other Welsh town, is just a ten minute drive away, take a stroll through its charming streets lined with shops, cafes, and historic buildings, or try the coastal town of Barmouth, 30 minutes away, with its vast sandy beach, amusements, and numerous pubs and cafes. History lovers can visit Cymer Abbey, a ruined Cistercian abbey just outside Dolgellau, or head underground at King Arthur's Labyrinth, a family-friendly attraction where you can learn about Welsh mythology and enjoy an exciting boat ride through the Labyrinth.

We had the best stay at Boethuog, the place is amazing, peaceful and a great base to be for days out exploring Wales, highly recommend this cottage, we booked again for 2025 before we left we loved it that much x

We absolutely loved this cottage, it is beautifully put together in the most peaceful area. Couldn’t fault it and though in a quiet little hamlet, it is only a short drive to Dolgellau, where we would stock up at the local Spar, which has a good selection of local produce too. There are walks from the doorstep, the Precipice Walk is down the road and we did a couple of others that started behind the school. I did buy a book on walks around Dolgellau before we went. We also walked up Cadair Idris, headed to Bala and Barmouth and did a section of the Mawddach Trail. Lovely to come back to such a lovely cottage, there was only 2 of us and a dog and we didn’t even use the upstairs. This is one of those places that we will miss.

Wonderful cottage in quiet, peaceful surroundings with views of multiple hills and the small village of Llanfachreth.
Good road acces to cottage and within easy reach (good walk or short drive) of all the amenities in Dolgellau.
Some great walks close by, and only 10-15 mins drive from Cader Idris car parks, mountain biking, walking and waterfalls at Coed y Brenin forest park, and not much further to the beaches of Aberdyfi and Barmouth.
The cottage has most things you need with a well serviced kitchen, utility room with washing machine, comfortable lounge, spacious bedrooms (1 en-suite) and a beautifully finished bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower.
The only things missing in my opinion is a washing line, should you need it, although there is a fold away airer, and a little more info on the immediate surrounding area for “walks from the door” would have been useful (i.e. if any of the surrounding fields can be used as foot access to the hills around etc.). 4.5/5⭐ from me, would return like a shot 😀,

Boethuog is just superb. I spent my 60th birthday week here and it was just the best place to be with family. Surrounded by stunning scenery and so peaceful and comfortable. Many miles walked from the door. Absolutely stunning. I will definitely be back.

Lovely stay at this cottage. The surroundings are beautiful and had the added addition of all the new born lamb outside the garden area. Very nicely laid out. Not really enough sofa space to fit all 4 adults and if made use of 3rd bedroom there would not be enough room to relax on evening as only one other comfy chair. Only minor suggestion though as everything else was fab. Would definitely recommend.

I found Dioni really nice to book a holiday with and the information they sent about the area etc was so good. Boethuog is a beautiful house in a really lovely location. I loved being woken in the morning by the farmer coming to feed his sheep and actually see lambs being born.
Dolgellau is a pretty little town about 15 minutes drive away with nice shops, walks and pubs, the pizzas in The Stag especially recommended.
Barmouth is also a great place for walks and beautiful scenery as is the local Precipice walk and others in the nearby woods. We climbed Snowdon on the Rangers path as read the path and car park were quieter…and they were! Also had a walk to see the Dolchy Falls which was nice and went to the Deep Mine Tour at Zip World and then on to Harlech Castle which was interesting. There’s so much to do in the area, we would definitely recommend and hope to return one day.

Fantastic cottage in a glorious setting, dog friendly garden, ideal for beautiful walks and the added bonus of watching a small herd of deer grazing at sunset. We had all four seasons weather in a week but couldn’t fault anything about it Thanks again Dioni, top marks to you all

A lovely base to explore the local area, the stock fence around garden meant our dog could safely go into the large garden to explore off lead, not something all “dog friendly” holiday lets achieve. The property has most of the facilities you expect the only thing missing for us was a source of music in the kitchen (I forgot to bring a Bluetooth speaker).
If weather was kinder we might have used the outside spaces more, but inside was fine to settle for the evening with a log fire.
You will need a car to access the property and other attractions, but it has electric car charging and wi-fi. Our 3 series went down the track to house OK, but I would not visit property with a low slung sports car.
Dolgellau a 12 minute drive away has choice of shops selling food (spar, Coop plus 2 bakers) and other essentials (Cader Idris for waterproofs) and a gift/craft shop. .
In our stay we visited 3 Sandy Beaches that had dog friendly areas available year round (Tywyn, Llandanng and Barmouth). With our dog we went to Castell-y-bere, in a lovely setting, then onto Dolgoch falls, which has an excellent café serving tea and cakes, the early falls are wheelchair/ pushchair accessible, with a more challenging upper falls section which had a picnic area at the top to rest after the walk up.
Coed-y-brennin has 3 excellent waterfalls with the recent rain, but we should have followed the blue walking route from Tyddyn Gwladys car park, rather than the “strenuous” red route from the visitor centre, although the cafe at visitor centre does good food and friendly staff as compensation. Precipice walk down road from property is well worth a visit, for the views alone but we chose to park at free car park rather than walk along the road up the hill to it (save our energy) and safer with no pavement. Enjoyed our stay.
