Clogwyn-Cottage is a luxurious farm holiday cottage at the foot of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) – one of two self catering barn conversions on a working farm on the western slopes in Rhyd Ddu. This two-bedroom holiday cottage offers superior accommodation for up to 4 people in an idyllic and tranquil setting.

The entrance porch of the cottage leads us into a large open plan living area. Two sumptuous leather sofas and plump scatter cushions face onto a warming wood burner sitting on a slate hearth. A modern digital TV hangs on the wall next to expensive hand made roman blinds that open to revel the surrounding countryside.

The adjoining kitchen diner has some beautiful hand painted fitted units covered in a speckled granite worktop. An electric oven, induction hob and dishwasher are all included. The circular dining table is more simple yet every bit as elegant. Traditional ledge and brace doors and solid oak flooring completes the country cottage look.

The two bedrooms sit at either side of the cottage. At the southern end we find a wonderfully light and sunny king sized bedroom with a huge fitted wardrobe concealed behind large oak doors. A large picture window offers views over the small patio and onto the mountains beyond.

At the other end of the cottage we come to an equally lovely twin room. Two Victorian style iron beds are covered in Egyptian white cotton sheets and a beautiful teal bed throw with scatter cushions and roman blinds to match. Subtle decorative features are, as in the rest of the cottage, dotted gracefully here and there.

The family bathroom is spacious and accommodates a white bathroom suite including a large bath with shower over, a wc and wash basin.

Location

The great thing about staying on a working farm on Yr Wyddfa is that you have your own private access to the summit. The famous Yr Wyddfa Ranger path and Rhyd Ddu path flank both sides of the farm however and, less experienced walkers, might prefer to use these well marked routes to ascend the tallest peak in England and Wales.

Another highlight of this location is the Welsh Highland Steam railway that fights it’s way from the historic castle town of Caernarfon to the north down to the Harbour of Porthmadog to the south. Stopping off at the nearby Rhyd Ddu station as well as Beddgelert and Pont Croesor this most picturesque narrow gauge track is a fantastic way of exploring and enjoying the surrounding countryside.

Just the one pub in the village, but luckily the Cwellyn arms is fantastic and offers a great selection of real ales and home cooked meals. The village also has a lovely tearoom. Ty Mawr is most famous for it’s pancakes perhaps but also serves a delicious cooked breakfast if your feeling a little lazy one morning and, if you pre order they’ll even prepare a packed lunch for later on in the day for you.

All the usual activities associated with North Wales are within easy reach including fishing, horse riding, mountain biking and rock climbing.

We had a fantastic stay at Clogwyn Cottage. The cottage is beautifully decorated and has everything you need. The check in is easy. There are fabulous views and walks from the doorstep. We would love to return.

A fantastic weekend spent at Clogwyn Cottage – perfectly situated for the Rhyd Ddu path up to the top of Snowdon (which we successfully made!) Would certainly recommend to friends and family. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Lovely, comfortable cottage on a working sheep farm in beautiful surroundings. Owners are friendly and very helpful with information about the area. Lovely walks from the doorstep or only a short drive away. A 15min stroll from the cottage door takes you to the Cwellyn Arms Pub ( lovely food, real ales and dog friendly). We loved our stay and will definitely return.

Lovely long weekend at this cottage. Wonderful location for my husband to do long-distance trail runs right from the door. Lucky to have lovely weather for early April so enjoyed the patio and its view. So quiet at night. Lovely evening full-moon walk to the superb Cwellyn Arms on a cross country gravel path. Would happily return. Slight shame another cottage is so close. Recommend slippers as floor is slightly cool.

We spent three nights on our way to Ireland, it wasn’t long enough! Lots to see and do in the area but watching the sun to down on Black Rock Sands was a highlight. The cottage is not only delightful, charming and well equipped but extremely comfortable and cosy. We cannot wait to come back.

Wow; what a holiday – loved the cottage and its location. Peaceful (other than a lots of ‘chatty’ sheep) and the most spectacular views. We will most certainly be back.

If I had to be critical, it would have been nice to have a full length mirror, some hooks of the backs of doors to hang wet towels and sockets near a mirror (in the double bedroom). Also the backwards fitted tap in the kitchen throw me a little!!

A wonderful cottage in an idyllic setting. The cottage had everything you would need and a nice touch with the coffee machine and complimentary coffee pods. The welcome pack and little gifts was very thoughtful. John and Jane were very friendly and had lots of ideas for places to visit. A very restful and relaxing holiday (apart from the walk to the summit of Snowdon) and I am sure we will be back in the future.

Well presented cottage in convenient location. Had all necessary amenities and a lovely Welsh welcome gift package on arrival. Perfect weather made for the opportunity to enjoy the local surrounds and the Cwellyn Arms in Rhyd-Ddu. Altogether, made for a thoroughly enjoyable few days in Snowdonia. Thank you.
