Clogwyn-Cottage is a luxurious farm holiday cottage at the foot of Snowdon – one of two self catering barn conversions on a working farm on the western slopes in Rhyd Ddu. This two-bedroom holiday cottage offers superior accommodation for up to 4 people in an idyllic and tranquil setting.

The entrance porch of the cottage leads us into a large open plan living area. Two sumptuous leather sofas and plump scatter cushions face onto a warming wood burner sitting on a slate hearth. A modern digital TV hangs on the wall next to expensive hand made roman blinds that open to revel the surrounding countryside.

The adjoining kitchen diner has some beautiful hand painted fitted units covered in a speckled granite worktop. An electric oven, induction hob and dishwasher are all included. The circular dining table is more simple yet every bit as elegant. Traditional ledge and brace doors and solid oak flooring completes the country cottage look.

The two bedrooms sit at either side of the cottage. At the southern end we find a wonderfully light and sunny king sized bedroom with a huge fitted wardrobe concealed behind large oak doors. A large picture window offers views over the small patio and onto the mountains beyond.

At the other end of the cottage we come to an equally lovely twin room. Two Victorian style iron beds are covered in Egyptian white cotton sheets and a beautiful teal bed throw with scatter cushions and roman blinds to match. Subtle decorative features are, as in the rest of the cottage, dotted gracefully here and there.

The family bathroom is spacious and accommodates a white bathroom suite including a large bath with shower over, a wc and wash basin.

Location

The great thing about staying on a working farm on Snowdon is that you have your own private access to the summit. The famous Snowdon Ranger path and Rhyd Ddu path flank both sides of the farm however and, less experienced walkers, might prefer to use these well marked routes to ascend the tallest peak in England and Wales.

Another highlight of this location is the Welsh Highland Steam railway that fights it’s way from the historic castle town of Caernarfon to the north down to the Harbour of Porthmadog to the south. Stopping off at the nearby Rhyd Ddu station as well as Beddgelert and Pont Croesor this most picturesque narrow gauge track is a fantastic way of exploring and enjoying the surrounding countryside.

Just the one pub in the village, but luckily the Cwellyn arms is fantastic and offers a great selection of real ales and home cooked meals. The village also has a lovely tearoom. Ty Mawr is most famous for it’s pancakes perhaps but also serves a delicious cooked breakfast if your feeling a little lazy one morning and, if you pre order they’ll even prepare a packed lunch for later on in the day for you.

All the usual activities associated with North Wales are within easy reach including fishing, horse riding, mountain biking and rock climbing. (The owners can arrange stabling for you horse if required. Please ask for details.)

The beautiful setting of your Cottage, allows you to do the best of your stay no matter how much it rains! From beautiful walks / bike rides around the lake to admiring an ever moving backdrop from the kitchen window. You always have many choices of activities or simply enjoying a quiet afternoon in front of the fire.

We definitely suggest a meal or two at the local restaurant Cwellyn Arms. Truly a Michelin star quality.
Very friendly and accommodating hosts. Thank you and Enjoy your home away from home!

Lovely, cosy cottage in a stunning location. Very nicely decorated with a wood burning stove. We stayed here with our 2 kids – 6 & 3 years for feb half term. We had a lot of stormy weather so did one day biking at coed y brenin and the rest tried to be a bit more indoors – llechwedd slate mine, surf Snowdonia ninja assault course, Llanberis railway all great. Thank you for making us so welcome! We especially loved meeting the new puppy.

We had a fantastic four nights in this beautiful cottage. Perfectly placed for exploring the area and so comfortable, we couldn’t even drag ourselves to the pub in the evening. Amazing weather helped – we managed to climb Snowdon in full sunshine – but we could just as easily have curled up in front of the fire for the duration. Gorgeous welcome pack had lovely treats like cake, beer and soap, but shops are a trek, so best to arrive with essentials, like milk! Girls, 11 and 9, desperate to stay again, as are we!

I had a wonderful few days at Clogwyn Cottage, booked last minute – beautifully furnished and comfortable, and a superb location underneath Snowdon with stunning views. Lots of amazing walks nearby – Henry the dog had a great time too! If you can, hike up the Rhyd Ddu path to the summit of Snowdon, and also try the circular hike from Beddgelert just down the road a little. Perfect place to relax when it’s raining too, with cosy fire. Only problem was with wifi but the lovely owners swiftly fixed this for us.

A very comfortable and clean modern cottage, with beautiful views all around, very relaxing and peaceful. Missing the sheep!

Would certainly make a return visit.
