Elegant self-catering accommodation in North Wales | Crogen-Wing

X4
Near PubReal Fire
Bala

Crogen-Wing is part of an impressive 14th century Manor house near Bala. The westernmost wing of the Manor house has been cleverly divided into elegant self-catering accommodation for guests wanting to visit this wonderful part of North Wales.

Armed with an impressively large key, access is gained via a secluded cobbled courtyard. The kitchen dinner has a country kitchen feel and includes both a dishwasher and washing machine. An impressive blue Aga stove on the far wall adds character and the hanging made above is a useful addition for drying socks after a long walk in the mountains.

A staircase leading off the kitchen diner brings you to the first floor lounge. Luxurious sofas face onto a warming log burner. Antique ornaments and period furniture add a sense of classic sophistication whilst the tall gothic like windows provide views of the nearby River Dee.

The spacious twin bedroom next door also enjoys the same great view. Guests can sit up in bed and watch the river as it winds lazily through meadows and grazing sheep whilst contemplating the adventures of the day ahead. The attached en-suite bathroom has a large bath as well as a separate and powerful shower.

The other side of the corridor we come to a second bedroom. A double this time, dressed like the first, with fine white cotton. An antique mahogany chest of drawers and a wing backed chair perpetuate the sense of elegance and style. Again, the spacious en-suite to this bedroom includes a bath and separate shower.

Location

One of the nicest features of this elegant self-catering accommodation is the private access to the River Dee nearby. Fishing by request. But guests also have the sole use of a more formal lawned area to the side of the property if they prefer. In addition, a full sized tennis court is available. Again, by request on arrival.

If you want to leave the grounds of the estate there’s a traditional village pub and separate restaurant within walking distance and the market town of Bala is a short 10 minute drive away. Bala has long been established as a Mecca for adventure activities. Llyn Tegid or Bala lake is popular with sailors, windsurfers and fishermen alike. White water rafting and kayaking is available at the world renowned Tryweryn white water centre. And the town itself is a wonderful mix of traditional welsh culture and contemporary shops and cafes.

Sitting as it does on the Eastern edge of the National Park, this part of Snowdonia has the natural benefit of being easily accessible from the English road network. Although saying that, coastal towns such as Aberdyfi to the West and Snowdon itself to the North West are less than an hours drive in the car.

What a fabulous place to stay. We enjoyed every minute despite the inclement weather. The wing was warm and comfortable with all the comforts of home. There’s lots of places to visit with not much traveling and Bala is a delightful town close by.
It was a pleasure to meet Henry and Sarah, thank you for sharing your beautiful home and surroundings.
We will come back.

We have just returned from the most amazing and relaxing short stay at the Crogan Wing. It’s such an elegant, luxurious and relaxing place to stay. The beds are very comfortable with quality bed linen which can’t result in anything but a wonderful nights sleep! We were amazed at the amount of space available, both inside the well equipped and tastefully decorated accommodation and in the beautiful (and very well maintained and tidy) grounds. We enjoyed walks through the fields and by the river which both had stunning views of the surrounding countryside. It’s so peaceful and we felt very privileged to stay in such a wonderful location. Sarah and Henry were so welcoming. Sarah very kindly invited my daughter to help her feed the chickens each morning – a small but very much appreciated gesture. We were stunned at how reasonably priced it was to stay here – we loved that it was in the middle of the countryside and yet it only took us 10 minutes to reach Bala. I highly recommend the Crogan wing. Thank you to Sarah and Henry for such a wonderful stay – we thoroughly enjoyed it.
