One Bedroom Cottage on a Working Welsh Farm | Gegin-Faeldre

This pretty one bedroom cottage on a working welsh farm is a great base for couples wanting to explore the mountains and coast of Eryri (Snowdonia). This beautifully appointed and private annexe to the main farmhouse offers luxurious accommodation whilst providing a taste of idyllic rural life. But don’t worry, the owners won’t make you get up at the crack of dawn to feed the sheep. Unless you really want to of course.

We enter the cottage through a private front door to the north of the main farmhouse into a large entrance hall. A convenient ground floor wc with washbasin sits behind a lovely oak ledge and brace door right in front, but we turn left to enter the living room.

A big open plan space where the living room to the right is separated by rail and breakfast bar from the larger kitchen diner area. A large leather sofa and coffee table sits in front of a large wall mounted flat screen TV. A big Georgian style window in the wall fills this space with a lovely light from outside.

The richly coloured and warm oak floor stretches back through into the kitchen area. Here, a lovingly restored and original Aga cooking range takes pride of place. More modern kitchen units stretch out to the left and ensures that all the expected modern day appliances are also accommodated. A small round dining table and pastel coloured moulded plastic chairs sit on the rear wall.

An oak bannister and carpeted stairs leads us up to the double bedroom above. Here, a relaxing king sized bed sits under the eaves of the cottage. Exposed beams and a section of the original stone wall provides a sense of character and place and a large Velux window ensures that plenty of light floods the room each morning.

The adjoining bathroom adds the wow factor to this accommodation. A huge double shower with matching white porcelain bathroom set rests on a plush blue-slate floor. A large wall mirror behind the sink finishes the room off nicely.

Location

Great views of the Cambrian coastline and the Llyn Peninsula beyond are afforded from the private courtyard and small lawned area right in front of the cottage. A neighbouring small outhouse provides plenty of storage for bikes and kayaks etc as the provided BBQ.

Llanbedr is the nearest village about a mile to the north. There are a couple of pubs here as well as a cafe and small grocery store. More choice is offered if you travel a little further up the coast to Harlech. The famous castle dominates this pretty little town and is an obvious draw for many guests.

About 5 miles to the south, Barmouth is that quintessential Victorian seaside town with a fantastic mix of smiling kids, fish and chips and acres of clean sandy beach. These days, the huge array of adventure activities on offer in the area draws just as many people as the beautiful sandy coastline. Everything from mountain biking, zip lining, gorge walking and rock climbing are all available. Although a quiet walk in the mountains behind the farmhouse is still my favourite.

Had a lovely stay at Gegin Faeldre, the cottage was very comfortable and it was an a great experience to cook with an Aga. The weather wasn’t great so the warmth from the Aga was an added bonus…

A wonderful cottage – one of the nicest we’ve ever stayed in. Comfortable bed, plenty of space for two, great shower, well equipped and fun learning how to use an AGA. Would recommend: 5 stars!
One suggestion…. We travelled in a camper van, which was fine parking when the car park was empty, but more difficult when there was another car in it. Might be worth considering marking out parking bays to allow easier access and manoeuvring?

Fabulous break in North Wales. The cottage was fabulous, had everything we needed and a lovely welcome with Welsh cakes and eggs on arrival. Very peaceful location with excellent views towards the sea. Easy to get to all locations we wanted to visit would highly recommend and would definitely stay here again 😊

A wonderful setting. We loved the views and sunsets.
The cottage and the farm made for a very good holiday.
As it happened, there was a heatwave and the Aga meant the house wasn’t as cool as you’d imagine a
stone cattage to be! Nevertheless, a very relaxing stay.

Myself and my wife had a lovely time. The area was stunning and the cottage itself was very well presented. The place was quiet and peaceful. We would happily return again in the future.

This is a wonderful cottage in a wonderful location. The cottage has everything you need for a great stay. The shower room is large and brilliant.
It is a working farm so you see some animals. The views of shell island and the sea are stunning as are the sunsets where we sat outside in the garden area with a glass of wine and relaxed. We loved it and shall return. Also the no pet policy was great for me due to my pet allergy. There should be more cottages like this and it should be searchable on the website. Thank you for a wonderful relaxing holiday.

We really enjoyed our stay in this cottage – it’s finished to a very high standard, well equipped with everything we needed, and we loved cooking on the AGA! The bed was lovely and comfortable, and the bathroom was very impressive. The owners Donna and Llion are very friendly and helpful too. Thank you so much!
