Holiday Cottage Near Harlech | Hengaeau

X5
Near BeachFarm Stay
Harlech

Another hidden gem nestling among the mountains of the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. This holiday cottage near Harlech has two bedrooms on the ground floor and is a perfect retreat for people looking to get away from it all.

It’s quite a new build so all the essentials are well taken care of. Efficient central heating, unlimited hot water, a fully fitted kitchen and spotlessly clean throughout. The lounge is comfortably furnished and include a traditional and handsome welsh dresser and I’m sure most guests will spend a lot of time with the large patio doors thrown open so as to make the most of the view. The cottage looks out onto the northern slopes of Moelfre and the Rhinog mountain range which stretch out towards Barmouth and the Mawddach Estuary. And cow watching is much more fun than people watching.

There’s separate dining area which sits five or more quite comfortably. The adjoining kitchen is quite small but it has everything you’d need including a dishwasher and washing machine. There’s a large bathroom with shower over bath. One twin bedroom room and finally, a large family bedroom with king sized bed and an extra single bed if required. Opening the curtains in this south facing bedroom every morning is sure to be one of your favourite bits of the holiday.

Location

I say this about a lot of our cottages. But the location really couldn’t be much better. The cottage sits above the pretty little seaside village of Llanfair on the Cambrian coast. You climb up a small lane out of the village before winding your way back down a private driveway to the farm. The nearest beach, Llandanwg, is one of our favourites, with its little rock pools to one side and sandy dunes on the other. The historic castle town of Harlech is about 2 miles to the north. There are three or four pubs in the town as well as a selection of restaurants. There’s also the castle of course and the famous St David’s links golf course.

If you decide to stay, you must also find the time to drive a little further up the lane to Cwm Bychan and the magical lake up there. It’s a beautiful spot and offers some fantastic wild trout fishing. Other popular activities in the area include mountain biking and walking of course.

A beautiful house in a beautiful spot! Quiet, cosy, spotlessly clean and well equipped for all that we needed. Warm and welcoming owners and in a location with fantastic walks and site-seeing on hand. We loved our stay here and hope to return again!

Hengaeau cottage was like a home from home. Greeted with delicious cakes and amazing views. The cottage was spotlessly clean with a well equipped kitchen and lovely spacious rooms. There was no need to watch tv with all the amazing wildlife and views. Helen and Ed were brilliant hosts and we’ll definitely be visiting again.

The perfect cottage! Immaculate inside and out, spacious and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. Full Internet connection for those that require it, with the added bonus of WiFi speakers to enjoy relaxing music. The cottage is close enough to the main road to explore the surrounding beaches and countryside, but far enough away that when there is no wind, it is absolutely silent outside. Very generous seating area and car parking outside, a lovely place to sit and watch the sun go down. The host was very friendly and welcoming, and the courtesy Bara Brith (cake) on arrival was delicious. I spent the week exploring the Rhinog mountains, but could have easily stayed at the cottage all day, it was that comfortable. A short walk to the coast revealed a lovely cafe with toilets and a car park for those not suited to walking. I recommend staying here and will book this cottage again later in the year. A lovely cottage in a beautiful location.

What a find – a very comfortable, warm cottage in stunning surroundings. Could not fault it.

What a great find this cottage is – very warm, comfortable, clean and oh so quiet. We had a real mixed bag of weather during our stay including Storm Agnes but had sunny days to visit Portmeirion, Harlech Castle and beach and the amazing Nantcol Waterfalls.
Even on the wet days the view from the lounge was amazing – the mountains, sea in the distance and the friendly cows staring at us from the nearby field!
The Bara Brith was a welcome addition. Would definitely stay here again

We had a wonderful holiday in your cottage. The only suggestion we would have is the provision of some basic condiments.

We really enjoyed our stay in Hengaeau. We had a week at the end of August and we made the most of our time there. The weather was wet in the mornings mostly, but brightened up later. So we had beach days in Harlech and Barmouth, enjoyed a walk down to Harlech Castle and made trips to Borth y Gest and Porthmadog. There really is so much to do. The cottage itself was so comfortable and clean. It had so many little extras to help enjoy your time there. We enjoyed bbqs and meals on the patio. The WiFi was an added bonus (it allowed me to work from holiday with no issues at all). The chocolate cake and fruit shoots on arrival were also a huge hit and the hosts were on hand if needed. Definitely recommend and we will hopefully make a return trip.

It was a very lovely cottage, the host Helen is a wonderful lady. The cake that awaited us was very tasty.
Very clean, had wonderful view. A place to relax with all amenities.
The only suggestion that I may have, again it is my very personal suggestion is that could do with few beer glasses/mugs and if the tub/shower glass maybe extended with a curtain as it would help the water not splash out of the tub. The shower itself is good and remains hot continually.
Overall, if we again go to Harlech area, we will try and secure the same cottage.

We had fantastic weather which made it better. But even so it really was brilliant.
