Location

This spacious three bedroom detached property near Criccieth is in the perfect location to explore the west coast of North Wales and the Llyn Peninsula. At only a five minute drive to the pretty seaside town of Criccieth, there are a number of reasons to visit including the wonderful beach, Criccieth Castle and a host of restaurants and cafes. Visiting Criccieth Castle's hilltop location provides spectacular views of the surrounding coastline and mountains. Originally built in the 1230's, the castle was modified numerous times over the years and the impressive twin towers of the gatehouse still remain to this day. Stop into Cadwalader's for some fantastic ice cream with views out to sea, or for something more substantial head to Dylan's Restaurant sitting alongside the beach in a stunning art deco building, before spending some time on the beach.

The nearby sweeping coastline provides numerous long sandy beaches including Morfa Bychan Beach where you can drive the car and park up right on the sand. A short drive east from the property heads toward the town of Porthmadog and onwards to the stunning Italianate Village of Portmeirion, packed full of quirky and wonderfully coloured buildings, alongside cafes and shops. It's a stunning location and was the set for the 1960's cult classic TV show The Prisoner. Maes-Y-Caerau is also in a fabulous spot to explore further along the Llyn Peninsula, exploring vibrant seaside resorts or taking stroll on the Wales Coast Path, passing along rugged cliff tops and golden sand beaches.

Hikers and walkers will find that the Parc Genedlaethol Eryri (Snowdonia National Park) is also only a short drive north east, with miles of walking trails and pretty villages to explore.

The hosts were fantastic- some of the best hosting “self catering cottages”! They were extremely communicative and kind, we had a question about heating and within 45 seconds we had help! One of our hosts had a chat with our group and gave us a brilliant recommendation for a route as it was our first time going to Snowdon- which we ended up following and it was lovely. The home was exactly what we were looking for, spacious, clean and very easy to cook a big meal for 6 people in. Although there were so many of us, there was more than enough room that we all had our own space, which was great. If our group did the trip again we would book without hesitation!

Plenty of room for the 6 of us. Accommodation clean and welcoming and hosts were friendly. The accommodation was close to several castles, beaches and good for walking. Sofa was a little \”soggy\” but that could be our age!

This was our first stay at Maes-y-Caerau; it is a beautiful home with everything you need for a restful holiday. Good location for travelling around the Llyn Peninsula. Next time we go we will order better weather. Dave & Debbie are exceptional hosts and really ensure that you are welcomed to the property and that the stay is all you hope for.

Lovely spacious house which was very well equipped and clean. Hot water on tap, lovely shower. Welcome hamper which was a lovely touch. We only used the downstairs rooms so cannot comment on upstairs but they all looked lovely. Our only downside was the mattress on the super king bed. Seemed to have a metal rim and all we could feel were hard springs that made such a noise when you moved. Shame as everything else was perfect.

Great stay in a beautiful house with an exceptional host.
Dave is an excellent host. A welcome pack with a bottle of wine, Welsh cakes and crisps was much appreciated.
The house was immaculate and really comfortable. It was ideally placed for touring the Peninsula.

Great accommodation, in a great location.
The property was amazing. Really comfortable and spacious. Large bedrooms, it was very impressive. The hosts were great, checking in with us to see if there was anything we needed. They set the bbq up for us one evening in the garden. A great stay in a great location.
