Two Bedroom Holiday Cottage On The Banks of The River Dwyfor | Melin-Dwyfor

X4
Pet FriendlyNear Pub
Criccieth

Location, location, location is the word for this property. Set on the banks of the river Dwyfor this beautiful, two bedroom, ground floor cottage has Swallows and Amazons written all over it! From whiling away your days fishing for salmon or swimming down the river, there is plenty to do while staying at the cottage. A short, 5 minute drive will bring you to the popular seaside town of Criccieth where you’ll find beautiful beaches, great restaurants and cafes and the castle of course.

The property itself is located on the ground floor of a beautiful, traditional, stone cottage. The entrance brings you into the open plan kitchen, sitting room and dining room. Recently renovated, the look and feel of the room is modern and minimal with lots of splashes of colour that add to the ambience and feel to the room.

The grey hues of the kitchen units and tiles work really well to separate it from the rest of the room and there is everything you need to cater for your group - it’s perfect for a family of four. The sitting room area has plenty of comfy seating and the log burner effect fire gives the room its warm and cosy feel that many look for in a hideway cottage in Wales.

The double and twin rooms are inkeeping with the rest of the house; a minimal feel but with great soft furnishings which bring warmth and they are both carpeted whereas the rest of the cottage has floorboards. The beds are incredibly inviting and a good nights sleep is sure to be on the cards here. Waking up to the beautiful views of the garden and river are just an added bonus.

There is a family bathroom which has a shower over bath, WC and washbasin.

Location

At the cottage itself, there is a private patio area with table and chairs. You also have access to the beautiful gardens which run down onto the banks of the river. The cottage comes with a fishing licence which enables guests to spend time fishing for salmon if they so wish - certainly a dinner to remember if you are successful with your catch. The river is also safe to swim in making it a great place to spend some time.

5 minutes in the car to the south is Criccieth. A great seaside town where there are plenty of places to eat and drink along with the famous castle, and the stunning beaches which are great for swimming off. The Bear Grylls Survival academy is just down the road if you fancy a bit of the great outdoors along with paintballing and off road segway.

A little further along the coast will bring you to Pwllheli which is a larger town and where you can spend days sailing from the marina - there is a market on Thursdays and again, plenty of places to eat and drink. The Llyn Peninsula has lots on offer with lots of stunning beaches and hidden coves to discover and beautiful small towns and villages, including Abersoch and Nefyn.

Portmierion Village is 20 minutes away in Porthmadog along with the Welsh Highlands steam train which will take you through the mountains to Caernarfon. Further inland are the Snowdonia mountains and lakes where you can take part in outdoor and watersport activities - there are lots of activity providers that can make a day in the mountains truly memorable. Zip world and Slate mountain are based in Blaenau Ffesiniog and a great place to spend the day. Towns like Betws Y Coed, Beddgelert and Llanberis are all must have places to visit and are within an hour’s drive from the cottage.

We have just spent a happy and restful week in this comfortable, clean and very well appointed apartment. The owners gave us a warm welcome and it was wonderful to hear about all they are doing for wildlife. Richard was lucky enough to see a tawny owl in the garden and went for a cold but very refreshing swim in the river. We both enjoyed the patio in morning sunshine and the woodland walk from the doorstep. Lots to explore in the vicinity and delicious fish and chips from Criccieth. We hope to return!

Mel and Jim were excellent hosts at an excellent apartment. Very clean and well equipped and a lovely setting by the river. The location is great for hiking in Snowdonia and for the coastal resorts along the Llyn Peninsular. We particularly liked the sandy beach at Black Rock near Porthmadog. We can also recommend Dylans restaurant at Criccieth both for the main restaurant and the beer/wine van for al fresco drinks along the sea front.
Thanks
Graham and Elaine

We (2 adults. 2 children) had a great time staying here at the end of August. Jim and Mel were great, friendly hosts, and the apartment had everything we needed. The quiet location and sound of the river gave us the best nights sleep we’ve had in ages too. The place was spotlessly clean as well.

Its only five mins from the beach and about half an hour to the mountains of Snowdonia, so an excellent location, and we’d happily return.

Thanks to Mel and Jim for making us feel so welcome.

Had a lovely week at Melin-Dwyfor. Great base to explore Snowdonia national park. Criccieth beach within 5mins drive. Great for families. The grounds are stunning, missing the river bench from the moment we left. The accommodation has everything you need. Jim & Mel are very friendly and my kids loved the cat and dog. Will be returning in the near future.
Thank you for a great week.

Just returned from a lovely holiday at Melin Dwyfor. The property is is finished to a high standard and had everything to hand. The location is perfect for walking along the river and the coastal path, with Criccieth and other surrounding towns nearby. Special thanks to Mel & Jim for making it a memorable holiday with the family, would definitely recommend Melin Dwyfor to family and friends.
