Pet Friendly Family Holiday Cottage | Pant-Golau

Pet FriendlyNear BeachNear PubReal Fire

Pant-Golau is Welsh for sunny or bright valley, and it certainly was the day we visited. This pet friendly family holiday cottage is on the end of a charming little row of three cottages in a little hamlet called Pensarn. But the country setting belies what is quite a posh and modern property inside. Chic, I think, would be the right word.

There’s a thoroughly modern kitchen-diner with all the facilities you would expect. But character is added by an exposed stone wall and the oak lintels which sit above two large windows with sea views of course. Plenty of room in the lounge too. Three huge sofas face onto a traditional cast iron log burner (for the romantically inclined) and quite a large flat screen TV just off to the left (for the not so romantic).

The sense of style continues with large hanging prints complementing the soft furnishings and décor. Sea views again of course. There’s also a ground floor shower room and WC. Four bedrooms upstairs. Two doubles and two twins, perfect for a large family or two smaller families. And all the other boxes have been ticked, bed side lamps, large wardrobes, tasteful soft furnishings, etc. Oh, and the sea views are even better up here. To the rear of the cottage is an elevate back garden complete with decking.

As mentioned, Pant-Golau is one of a small collection of houses in Pensarn which is a mile or so to the north of the charming little village of Llanbedr. Just about walking distance to the pub but maybe a car journey if you’re carrying shopping back from the shop. Both pubs in the village serve food. The Victoria Inn has a fantastic beer garden and the ‘Ty Mawr’ has a selection of real ales and a fantastic atmosphere especially when there’s rugby on the TV.

Harlech with its famous castle and 18 hole links golf course is five minutes away by car and the larger seaside town of Barmouth is about ten minutes away in the opposite direction. So plenty of other restaurants and shops within easy reach. This pet friendly family holiday cottage overlooks the Artro river estuary and the famous Shell Island.

Fantastic blue flag beaches are dotted all along this coastline but one of our favourites is Llandanwg beach just a mile up the coast. We ordered a pizza from the small café there before sitting on the beach with a glass of chilled white wine and watched the sun dipping down over the mountains of the Llyn peninsula. Idyllic.

The little lane leading to the cottage eventually leads up towards Cwm Nantcol and the lake at Cwm Bychan. So the cottage provides a great base for walking, cycling and fishing. The lake holds brown trout and a fish known locally as “the red bellied char”.

We had a lovely stay in no.3 Pant Golau. It was clean, comfortable and it had everything we needed. The TV was easy to work and log in to Netflix, WiFi was good. Two excellent sized parking spaces and the house was easy to find after 5+ hours on the road. The lounge would benefit from a lamp. We were impressed by the high spec appliances in the kitchen. One of the beds had a dead insect in it and another a pubic hair. The welcome pack was a nice touch. The garden is very nice. We loved the little walk we did with Reggie up behind the property, whilst waiting for the teenagers to wake up. This was a much needed break for us, thank you x

This is a lovely, well-equipped cottage, comfortably furnished and in a wonderful location. We loved being able to walk in one direction along the estuary and get to the beach in around 15 minutes. We walked all the way across the sands as far as Harlech, and then came back on the train (runs every 2 hours) to Pensarn station, just 8 minutes journey. Alternatively, we could walk up behind the cottage and climb through woods, across streams and sheep pastures into the hills inland. There are some amazing waterfalls at Nantcol and an abundance of beautiful views.
We spent a week there in early January and when we couldn’t go out walking because of the rain we built up the fire in the wood burner and played a game or watched the robins and other birds on the bushes outside.
So we really recommend Pant Golau, a super cottage in a great location – at any time of year!

A lovely cottage in a great location.
The biscuits and milk went down well with the kids after a long drive so much appreciated.
The beds were comfy and the kitchen was very well equipped.
We enjoyed sitting in the garden and the log burner in the evening.

We loved the short walk to Llanbedr which has 3 great pubs with beer gardens- perfect under current restrictions.
All the people we met were very friendly and we will definitely return!

Stayed here for a week with the family. A lovely cottage in a great and quiet location. The cottage is perfect base to explore the area. Our children loved watching the chicks in the nests at the cottage and walking down to the harbour and beach from the cottage.

I really loved my stay at Pant Golau. It was in fact my first holiday, as I am only 4 months old. I had an absolutely wonderful time. I so enjoyed walking around the countryside around the cottage. There were many things I saw for the first time – the sea was one of them, plus sheep, cows and horses. My particular favourite places were Cwm Bychan, the Nantcol waterfalls, Pensarn harbour and Llechollwyn. All these places were recommended in the excellent guide produced by Uncle Peter and Auntie Anne, the owners. I had a lovely place to sleep in my crate and an excellent place to put my pen, both in the superb slate-floored kitchen. My Daddy went on a trip to the Ffestiniog railway, which he enjoyed. I didn’t go, but I could have for only £3! I do hope my Daddy and Mummy will take me back again, (They will says Daddy)

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Pant Golau between Christmas and New Year 2018. The cottage was lovely and clean with everything in good working order. So nice to be toasty warm and cosy despite the cold damp  outside.  We soon found the cottage was very well equipped with everything  we needed from kitchen utensils (including a cafetiere) to games, books and toys . Both bathrooms had nice new modern fittings. Really powerful  pressure in the main shower.  The downstairs shower and toilet, beyond the kitchen, were very handy (note switch for shower is inside the kitchen) and the heated towel rail warmed the room.  The owner was easy to contact when we had questions.
In the mornings I enjoyed walking out with the dog along the lane,  down to the quaint railway station and beyond. Lovely views of the coast.

Welsh rarebit was really delicious at Harlech Castle Cafe where we had a couple lunches. I also enjoyed their loose leaf teas.  We had an enjoyable evening meal at the Victoria Inn.  Good food and service. The beach at Harlech was so extensive we only managed to cover a small part if it, after fun climbing up and down the sand dunes. We also had a plesant  morning hiking round Rhaeadr Nantcol Waterfalls which are a very short drive from the cottage. All in all a great winter break on the Welsh coast.

Lovely accomodation.Parking 2 cars was difficult but you just need to take care. The downstairs loo is accessed through the rear garage/workshop area and would benefit from enlargement and being seperated/enclosed making it more like part of the house.

We spent 28/05 to 04/06/ 2017 at Pant Golau and really enjoyed our stay due to the excellent views and location, plenty of places to visit and value for money. On a negative note the downstairs shower/toilet room required a good clean and the door would not close due to swelling, the garden access was not small dog friendly, due to it having 2 steep staircases to access it and there was an issue in getting the cars out of the parking spaces when going out for the day. The cottage was spacious enough for all to be able to relax and the kitchen/dining area was very well equipped and we would give the property 8 out of 10 and would recommend this property to others.
