Pant-Golau is Welsh for sunny or bright valley, and it certainly was the day we visited. This pet-friendly family holiday cottage is on the end of a charming little row of three cottages in a little hamlet called Pensarn.

There’s a thoroughly modern kitchen-diner with all the facilities you would expect. Character is added by an exposed stone wall and the oak lintels which sit above two large windows. Plenty of room in the lounge too. Three huge sofas face onto a traditional cast iron log burner (for the romantically inclined) and quite a large flat screen TV just off to the left (for the not so romantic).

The sense of style continues with large hanging prints complementing the soft furnishings and décor. There’s also a ground floor shower room and WC. Four bedrooms upstairs: two doubles and two twins, perfect for a large family or two smaller families. All the other boxes have been ticked: bedside lamps, large wardrobes, tasteful soft furnishings, etc. To the rear of the cottage is an elevated back garden complete with decking.

Location

As mentioned, Pant-Golau is one of a small collection of houses in Pensarn which is a mile or so to the north of the charming little village of Llanbedr. Just about walking distance to the pub but maybe a car journey if you’re carrying shopping back from the shop. Both pubs in the village serve food. The Victoria Inn has a fantastic beer garden and the ‘Ty Mawr’ has a selection of real ales and a fantastic atmosphere especially when there’s rugby on the TV.

Harlech with its famous castle and 18 hole links golf course is five minutes away by car and the larger seaside town of Barmouth is about ten minutes away in the opposite direction. So plenty of other restaurants and shops within easy reach. This pet friendly family holiday cottage overlooks the Artro river estuary and the famous Shell Island.

Fantastic blue flag beaches are dotted all along this coastline but one of our favourites is Llandanwg beach just a mile up the coast. We ordered a pizza from the small café there before sitting on the beach with a glass of chilled white wine and watched the sun dipping down over the mountains of the Llyn peninsula. Idyllic.

The little lane leading to the cottage eventually leads up towards Cwm Nantcol and the lake at Cwm Bychan. So the cottage provides a great base for walking, cycling and fishing. The lake holds brown trout and a fish known locally as “the red bellied char”.

We spent lovely weeks at Pant-Golau house. The surroundings are amazing and invite to walks. We enjoyed the calmness and the bird’s songs 😁😍
Thanks to the owners for the warm welcome !

A gorgeous and characterful property with everything that we wanted for a lovely holiday. We encountered a few issues on arrival but the host went to great lengths to get everything sorted to our satisfaction! All in all an excellent week and would definitely return.

A lovely, clean cottage, one of the best we have ever stayed in! Our 2 grandchildren had a wonderful time on the beach, even in the pouring rain. Lots to do locally, slate caverns, Nantcol waterfalls, Harlech castle, the beach, to name a few. The only small problem was that the window had ‘blown’ in the lounge, so we were unable to make the most of the view. Thank you for the goodies.

A great, and very well equipped cottage for our large group. Excellent location for exploring this beautiful area of North Wales, we used the railway to travel up and down the coast so the station being just a couple of minutes work was perfect! The house itself has plenty of seating for lots of people and the garden is a wonderful place to sit and take in the stunning scenery. It’s worth mentioning that the turning into the parking is quite tight if you’re travelling in an estate car (as we were), but we didn’t need to move it for the whole of our stay between walking into Llandber for a good In the highly recommend Victoria Inn, or hopping in the train for castle and beach exploration. Also, the best welcome basket we have ever had anywhere, thank you.

We had a lovely stay in no.3 Pant Golau. It was clean, comfortable and it had everything we needed. The TV was easy to work and log in to Netflix, WiFi was good. Two excellent sized parking spaces and the house was easy to find after 5+ hours on the road. The lounge would benefit from a lamp. We were impressed by the high spec appliances in the kitchen. One of the beds had a dead insect in it and another a pubic hair. The welcome pack was a nice touch. The garden is very nice. We loved the little walk we did with Reggie up behind the property, whilst waiting for the teenagers to wake up. This was a much needed break for us, thank you x

This is a lovely, well-equipped cottage, comfortably furnished and in a wonderful location. We loved being able to walk in one direction along the estuary and get to the beach in around 15 minutes. We walked all the way across the sands as far as Harlech, and then came back on the train (runs every 2 hours) to Pensarn station, just 8 minutes journey. Alternatively, we could walk up behind the cottage and climb through woods, across streams and sheep pastures into the hills inland. There are some amazing waterfalls at Nantcol and an abundance of beautiful views.
We spent a week there in early January and when we couldn’t go out walking because of the rain we built up the fire in the wood burner and played a game or watched the robins and other birds on the bushes outside.
So we really recommend Pant Golau, a super cottage in a great location – at any time of year!

A lovely cottage in a great location.
The biscuits and milk went down well with the kids after a long drive so much appreciated.
The beds were comfy and the kitchen was very well equipped.
We enjoyed sitting in the garden and the log burner in the evening.

We loved the short walk to Llanbedr which has 3 great pubs with beer gardens- perfect under current restrictions.
All the people we met were very friendly and we will definitely return!

Stayed here for a week with the family. A lovely cottage in a great and quiet location. The cottage is perfect base to explore the area. Our children loved watching the chicks in the nests at the cottage and walking down to the harbour and beach from the cottage.
