Wow…..If you’ve found yourself looking at this beautiful cottage, all I can say is just book it!! Myself, husband and two girls aged 7 and 10 stayed for two night. The most beautiful place to stay, so peaceful and literally nothing around you but sheep! Absolutely stunning inside, comfortable beds, a bath to die for…very much appreciated after a long day at work! Log burner was a dream, kitchen had everything we needed. We didn’t arrive until 6.30pm and it was extremely dark given we were in the middle of nowhere, but the instructions we were given when travelling down really helped. Signal is poor and we had no reception it we really don’t mind at all, WiFi works really well so no need to worry. Goodies that were left for us were also a nice little treat, thank you! We would most definitely return!

An amazing “self catering cottage”! One of the best! Pengwern is in a idyllic rural setting with outstanding views. The house has everything you need, plus very comfy beds! It is extremely clean! We could not fault it, only that we had to leave! The owner is very friendly and was quick to respond to any questions. We will definitely return and would highly recommend this “self catering cottage”. Thank you for an amazing stay, just the rest that was needed.

If you like the wilderness and are looking for a break from the daily grind, you have come to the right place. The surrounding landscape is impressive and the accommodation is so beautifully and tastefully decorated that you are reluctant to leave it again. Above all, the warm oven after a hike in the cold was great! If you travel there in winter, you have to expect snowfall and icy roads to the house. Next time, I would at least pay attention to winter tyres when booking a rental car. Thanks to Vicky and her team, however, we safely reached the main road and were able to reach our plane in time. Dear Vicky, Thank you again for your support!

My first but not last stay here. What a beautiful cottage. Very clean and warm. Very very quiet which is what I wanted for just me and my old doggo. The view’s are amazing. I recommend taking some binoculars. Good WiFi and a good smart TV with plenty of books and games. All in all a good holiday which I would highly recommend.

My friend and I had a really lovely stay at Pengwern with our small dog. We found everything we needed in the kitchen, the sofas were so comfy and the fire made the cottage amazingly warm. Both beds were really comfortable and the bathroom was lovely, spacious and wonderful to relax in. The only thing I would say to be mindful of is that pets aren’t allowed upstairs, so if you have a dog that usually sleeps with you this might be an issue. The location was stunning and the host got back to us quickly. Thank you Lyn and Vicky.

Our 5 night stay at the cottage was absolutely brilliant.. better than expected, The cottage itself is lovely, private and peaceful it was spotlessly clean and warm on arrival, the views are amazing and your situated on the top of a hill and all around you are just views and sheep. You have everything you need for your stay.. but if you wake up to snow as we did ( which was unbelievable an magical like a Christmas card scene) you may need a few more logs for the fire so make sure you bring some as the steep hills an single winding lanes can be a real struggle. The small fridge in the kitchen isn’t up to much probably needs replacing “tbh” as it barely chills your fresh food or drinks. We had to throw some away as it turned and im not complaining at all btw. We really can’t wait to return.. beds are very comfortable and shower was great.. overall it was absolutely brilliant stay an wonderful cottage. Excellent information and directions sent after booking. Thank you so much .

We had the most amazing week at Pengwern. Absolutely stunning location to get away from the chaos of daily life and properly relax. Our dogs enjoyed the garden and local walks. We met the neighbouring farmer who was lovely too. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed, and even though the weather wasn’t great, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was so peaceful with only the sound of sheep, cows, and running water from the nearby stream. We are very grateful that the owner allows people to stay. If it was ours, we would never leave! We will definitely be back and are already planning our next visit!

This is the most amazing place. The location is outstanding and the cottage is comfortable and so easy to live in. Our dogs enjoyed playing in the enclosed outside space. We were blessed with two weeks of stunning weather and total peace.

Excellent week away with excellent weather.
Perfect cottage in beautiful and peaceful surroundings.
Loved being in the country and also enjoyed day trips out to Anglesey, Barmouth and other coastlines.
Whitewater rapids, zip wire and go karting is recommended.
Enjoyed lots of walks. Recommend Dylan’s restaurant which was our favourite and dog friendly too.
Fridge could have been a bit bigger. Kitchen had everything we needed apart from a coffee machine.
Would highly recommend a stay here, thank you so much.
Kevin
Stayed at Pengwern from 21.06 to 28.06.25 and had a lovely stay. The weather could have been better but it didn’t spoil our stay. The house was comfortable with good WiFi. The only negative thing would be the size of the fridge, far too small for a half decent shop, never mind a full weeks worth, perhaps they would consider replacing the existing fridge for enlarger one that would fit easily on the opposite wall. All in all a wonderful stay with magnificent views and location. Thank you, we’re looking forward to booking our next stay at some point in the near future 😀
Darren
Fantastic cottage, stunning views ,from the mountain views to the circling kites ,a very relaxing stay.
We wanted a quiet relaxing holiday and that’s what we got.
Highly recommend a stay.

Location is really stunning, idea base to get to many beautiful spots in North Wales. Country roads to get to but not narrow. Nearest shop is about 10 minute drive away.
Cottage was really lovely and clean.
If we were being picky and to give a 5 start experience it would be nice to have some comfy seats to sit on outside, this would allow you to make the most of the wonderful view.
Dog friendly but dogs are not allowed upstairs! it would have been nice to know this before we booked as could be problematic for some hence why we mention.
Pamela Lowe
A beautiful cottage in an outstanding place. Cottage is well equipped, clean and tidy. Sunloungers would have been useful as it would have been nice to relax at the end of a busy day.
Food was difficult to find with the nearest large supermarket 20 miles away. Spar and Co-op in Bala but we found supplies like milk and bread hard to find. Pubs also only did food in the evening.
However we are home refreshed and relaxed after a lovely holiday having seen such beautiful scenery and visited places of interest.

Fantastic location in out of the way location. Would recommend for anyone who wants a quiet rural location, beautiful scenery. Lovely scenery while driving to local beauty spots.
The cottage was lovely with all you would want for a stay.
Jeremy
Secluded, quiet, peaceful and stunning scenery. Could easily have stayed longer.
Hannah
Beautiful location, stunning views. Lovely and clean.
Caitlin
Perfect location!!! Absolutely loved our stay, great if you’re looking for something out the way and very private. Great walks literally on the door step. Amenities are great, plenty on pots, pans plates etc. We were so sad to leave, it really is a great place.
Marie
The cottage was a gem! Exactly as on the description, even better – a beautiful valley to enjoy long walks, a perfect home for a remote stay with a family of humans and nonhumans (we travelled with our dog and he had the best time in the enclosed garden, with lots of sheep to look at and only farms around – a true paradise). All the people we met were super friendly, from the neighbor farm to the staff at the local pub and the supermarket in the closest town (ca. 15mins drive). Don’t miss the amazing organic Rhug Estate Farm a little further for local delicious food! All in all a perfect for a writing/working retreat with fast Internet connection on average (though no phone reception at the cottage). We had a wonderful time and hope to be back!

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location. We stayed here for Christmas and had a magical time in this warm and well equipt cottage. The cottage was tastefully decorated for Christmas too, which was a really nice touch. Certainly one we will book again 🙂
Liz
An absolutely stunning home and location. Very private but not too far a drive to get to surrounding towns. The home is extremely well stocked with kitchen equipment, linens, etc to make the stay very comfortable. I would highly recommend and hope to be back soon!
Angela
Our second trip to this cottage, equally as peaceful and equally enjoyed.
Tracy
We had a lovely stay in the beautiful cottage, the views were amazing. It was lovely to sit in the garden enjoying the sun. Our dog loved running around. It would have been good to know beforehand that dogs are not allowed upstairs. Also there is a beautiful bath but there was no bath towels were provided.
Heather
Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. The cottage is warm, it has everything you need and the beds very comfy (i normally get hip and back ache from different beds but not on this trip). There was a nice little circular walk from the cottage down a nearby bridleway. There are so many activities to do locally if you want an adventure. We tried coasteering, river bugging and Zipworld Velocity in addition to the walking.
Noelia
We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It was so peaceful and private, with incredible views. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped. We will definitely return!

We have just had a week in this beautiful, cosy cottage. If you are looking for a peaceful break in lovely accommodation with stunning views, Pengwern is definitely worth visiting. The cottage is very clean and well equipped, with everything you need for a comfortable break. The WiFi is excellent, especially considering the rural location and surrounding hills. The owners left a lovely welcome pack – thank you for this, it was very thoughtful. It’s lovely to watch the sheep and lambs close up, as they come right up to the gate and fence. Betws-y-Coed is only about a 20 minute drive, so nice and close to pay a visit. Our dog loved Pengwern too, the garden is completely enclosed so it was great to relax knowing he was always secure while we sat out in the sun enjoying the views. We would definitely return, it was very relaxing. Thank you for a lovely break.
Sarah
This holiday cottage stay was just what we wanted, away from it all, peace and quiet. The cottage itself was lovely, clean and very well equipped. The large enclosed outdoor area was perfect for our two dogs. The weather was good to us and we had few walks around the area. Very cosy in the evening with just the odd sheep noise. We definitely recommend this cottage if you want a “get away from it all” holiday. Looking forward to returning in the future.

Perfect holiday in a perfect dog friendly cottage. The cottage and location were amazing, exactly like the photos. Very easy to find following the instructions. Owner very nice and helpful regarding where we could walk with the dogs. Garden was enclosed and safe for our beloved pooches. Cottage was cleaned to a very high standard and felt just like home with everything you could possibly need. Views stunning even when the weather wasn’t on our side! No traffic at all apart from the post van and local farmer. We will definitely return.

We stayed here before Christmas. What an absolute gem this is. We loved everything about it. Remote, quiet, comfortable with everything you need for a fantastic weekend away. The bed was comfortable. It was minus 2 when we were there so enjoyed the log fire in the evening. We sat outside in the evening wrapped up drinking coffee and watching the stars. My partner constantly talks about how well he slept over that weekend. It was just perfect and I am just about to book another weekend for later in 2024. Thanks Dioni. A class property.

Pengwern is a fabulous place to stay lovely views across the valley lovely beds for a good nights sleep the piece and quiet is perfect for get away from it all holiday will be returning the owner is very helpful with anything you require log burner is fantastic on those chill nights
Angela and Wayne
We loved our stay in Pengwern as the tranquility and remote surroundings were just what we wanted for a quiet New Years Eve.
The cottage is very cosy and well kept and the extra personal touches of Christmas lights, decorations, candles and the welcome pack made it even more special.
The wet weather didn’t hinder our stay as we drove to local areas of interest but we would like to explore the local walks in the spring/summer.
I used the washing machine and the clothes quickly dried on an airer due to the heat from the underfloor heating system which worked really effectively.
We briefly met the owner when we arrived who was lovely and told us to contact her should we need anything but we didn’t need to as everything was perfect for our stay.
Gemma Holland
Beautiful cottage. Well appointed. Stunning scenery.
Garden is completely dog proof which can’t be said for all holiday cottages that state enclosed garden.
It really is rural so no quick walk to the shop so do come prepared.
The roads driving towards cottage are narrow and at points look like no one has driven on them but the Google directions from Dioni email are perfect.
The drive up to the cottage from the road is very steep and a bit daunting on first sight but you get used it to it.
Rhug farm shop about 8 or 9 miles away does great meat.
We didn’t try the local Gilet Arms it’s about 3 mile drive away.
Jane
the total immersion in countryside, the green space was breathtaking – as soon as I parked and got out of the car it was a full on switch off … the ever changing light, shadow, bird song, just magical (also, the bed was super comfy and the bath to die for!). I would / will go back in a heartbeat
Jackie
Pengwern is a lovely cottage, beautifully furnished, great views all round, only sheep and the odd farmer quad bike in the distance! The log burner is the best we have come across in Wales! A very comfortable and enjoyable, peaceful weekend, just what the doctor ordered! It was a little tricky to find but we got there and once we drove up the single drive it was worth it!
If you are looking for a break with no people, no cars and no noise then this cottage is for you. We will certainly return.
Emma
The cottage is in a beautiful location that is very peaceful; you can only ever hear the wind or the sheep!
The inside is very comfortable and warm, and the log burner helps make a lovely cosy atmosphere in the living room of an evening.
Outside, the garden is really well enclosed for dogs as long as all the gates stay closed, so it’s safe for them to be outside with you which is lovely, as many holiday cottages don’t have the same enclosed space so this was a bonus.
The owners are extremely helpful and kind; they offered advice on dog walking in the area and helped us get necessary supplies when we were taken ill over our holiday. It means a lot that the owners were so willing to help when we needed them, as it means you can stay there safe in the knowledge that someone local can help if you have a problem.
Really can’t fault this property; if you want to stay in the area it’s a great one to go for! A very lovely stay.
Jane Leary Pugh
What a gorgeous place. Peaceful, quiet, comfy and cosy with only sheep and fresh air for company. Thanks for the lovely welcome pack. Much appreciated. Loads of lovely walks from the door. A lot of time and effort has gone into this lovely place. It is much appreciated. Many thanks Jane x

Wonderful location and a perfect place to be for morning runs/walks, to come back to after a day in the hills or to stay at home and enjoy the scenery. Very thoughtful welcoming pack. Our dog loved it (property itself well enclosed).
Jayne Hart
We absolutely loved this place and were blown away by the views. The cottage inside is spacious and the kitchen has plenty of room and is well-equipped. Everything was clean. We went for a run around the area and came across one car! Everyone locally was so friendly. We were not sure whether it is possible to heat the larger bedroom as my sister said it was not that warm in there. That was the only issue however and we would certainly go back there again. Would love to have stayed longer and to chill with the great selection of books and cosy sofas and throws.
Liz
Pengwern is a lovely property, comfortable, warm and well presented. It was a pleasure to come back and enjoy the log burner and comfy sofas whilst listening to the wind and rain outside. The secluded location is beautiful but a warning that the relatively local shops shut at 6.30 after that the nearest shop that opens later is in Betws-Y – Coed, which is 7 miles away.
So unlike us, it is probably a good idea to bring plenty of provisions so you do not have to wander around looking for a shop at 8.30pm, when is dark and pouring with rain…
Lynne Smethurst
We loved every minute staying at Pengwern. The cottage was just perfect. We loved its remoteness and the scenery from the garden was stunning, especially early morning and the sunrise, it was well worth getting up for. The cottage is well equipped and the wood burner makes it a very cosy place in the evening. Our dogs loved the enclosed garden and we had great weather so sitting outside with a glass of wine watching the farmer rounding up his sheep was incredibly relaxing. Brilliant holiday, we didn’t want to leave.

We had an absolutely wonderful week in this beautiful cottage. Stunning location, fabulous views, peace and quiet – absolute heaven!
We walked several miles every morning, along quiet tracks and footpaths and hardly saw a soul, returning to relax in this comfortable cottage. Highly recommended 🙂

Wonderful cottage in a great location, although very rural, just 10 mins from A5. Real home from home. Would definitely recommend, especially if you’re after some peace and quiet. Spent hours just enjoying the views!

The cottage was perfect for a get away from it all week particularly given the glorious weather. The view was magical and we spent many happy hours watching the farmer in the valley below harvesting hay. Very therapeutic. The memory will certainly sustain us for weeks to come.

We had a fantastic stay at Pengwern with our two dogs. The location is amazing: peaceful with breathtaking views, the perfect place to relax and get away from it all.
Aside from the location the property itself is very clean and well organised with everything you could possibly need. The welcome basket is a wonderful added touch.
I cannot recommend Pengwern enough. The best cottage we have stayed in so far. We can’t wait to return!!
Sarah fitzsimmons
Absolutely beautiful cottage, amazing views, in a beautiful remote spot , whilst still being close to attractions.
The cottage is warm and cosy, the owners have thought of everything, fresh flowers and a fire ready to light and a welcome hamper.
It’s just heavenly… we will definitely return to this gorgeous retreat !
