Holiday Cottage in Wild Eryri (Snowdonia) | Ysgubor-Goch

This beautiful barn has been converted into a very handsome holiday cottage in wild Eryri (Snowdonia). Here a traditional welsh long barn as well as the main farmhouse nearby provides idyllic holiday accommodation for guests wanting to escape the hassle of modern life.

The barn has 4 bedrooms and can comfortably sleep up to 8 people. The conversion is imaginative and well thought out. Bedrooms are spacious and the open plan design of the living area creates a wonderfully sociable environment.

From the entrance hallway we turn left into the living area. This huge open plan area comprises lounge, dining and kitchen areas. The lounge houses some comfortable leather sofas, a modern flat screen TV as well as a warming log fire. Overhead a suspended walkway connects the first floor bedrooms whilst preserving the sense of space afforded by vaulted ceilings.

The dining area comes next. A wooden table surrounded by eight country cottage chairs is overlooked by a traditional welsh dresser. And from here we walk through to the kitchen area. All the appliances you could ask for are included. Fridge, freezer, dishwasher etc. are all there. The washer dryer is housed in the adjoining utility room.

Returning across the entrance hallway we have a very spacious ground floor twin room. The adjoining bathroom with shower and wc ensures that any guests with mobility problems can be comfortably accommodated.

An open tread wooden staircase takes us to the three first floor bedrooms. One double room and one twin room occupy the southern end of the barn. That suspended walkway then takes us across to another spacious double bedroom and a luxurious bathroom. The bathroom has a wc, bath and separate shower cubicle. All the bedrooms are immaculately clean and tidy and a modern central heating system ensures guests feel warm and cosy even in the depths of winter.

There is also a great games room with pool table, table football and a giant connect four.

Location

A short 3 minute drive will bring you to lake Cwellyn car park. The famous Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) Ranger path up Yr Wyddfa starts here. This westerly route up the mountain is often favoured by more experience walkers to the busier eastern routes on the other side of the mountain.

A little further is the next village of Rhyd Ddu. Another pub, another route up Yr Wyddfa plus the opportunity to jump on the Welsh Highland Railway, a narrow gauge steam railway that runs between the larger towns of Porthmadog and Caernarfon, along, what must be, one of the most picturesque railway routes in the world.

Caernarfon is about 6 miles away from the cottage to the North (15 mins in the car). The famous castle is a natural ‘must do’ but lots of shops, cafes and restaurants are also there. 15 miles to the south is the bustling seaside town of Porthmadog. Again, plenty of shopping opportunities as well as the popular sandy beaches of Borth Y Guest and Black Rock.

From this property, you can access all trails of Snowdon within a 30-minute drive.

The fastest zip line in the world, internationally renowned white water rafting and premier down hill mountain biking are just some of the more adrenaline enducing activities also available in the area.

Myself and my family had the loveliest time staying at this cottage.. I cannot sing its praises enough! We’ve stayed at a Dioni cottage before and again it was also perfect! This cottage had everything and more… it was cosy, clean and apparently (so my kids say) the games room was the best part 😂., Such a lovely touch, as we all know kids are constantly bored .. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and will be recommending to all my friends! Thanks for having us xxx

We would highly recommend ‘Hen Ysgubor’ at this most beautiful and tranquil location; the accommodation had it all and kept 3 generations of family all happy during our stay here, the games room was just perfect and on many evenings this room and the outside garden space was filled with laughter.

Such a peaceful location with the most amazing scenery to view from each and every window, we enjoyed a few walks exploring the fields and streams adjacent to Hen Ysgubor and each time found something new! We even experienced the driveway full of sheep on a couple of occasions early morning when the local farmer moved them from field to field, the sheepdogs were just inspiring to watch at work and a fabulous sight to wake up to – moved an entire flock in just minutes!

Overall we have enjoyed a great family holiday with visits to The Sygun Copper Mine, Craflwyn & Beddgelert National Trust, a trip on the Snowdon Mountain Railway to the summit, the Llanberis Lake Railway enjoying the National Slate Museum at the final stop, an exhilarating rib ride at Menai Bridge, Beaumaris Castle, Zip Safari / Treetop Nets / Skyride and the Forest Coaster all at Zip World Fforest, Greenwood Forest Park, stunning views at Y Felinheli Waterfront and a day at the beach at Black Rock Sands (inc. Porthmadog Harbour). There is so much to see and do in the area and all of the mentioned days out took less than an hour to reach, most were just a short 15-20 minutes away. It’s a great base for families and rambling groups alike.

We also arranged a food shop delivery from Tesco.com to arrive at the house on our first day which kept the cupboards stocked up for the length of our stay.

We would definitely stay again in the future as there is just so much still left to explore!!

Thank you to the owners for providing us with such a fabulous home from home for the week.

Spent three nights in this lovely cottage on a family break. Fantastic setting amidst great scenery during great weather. Spotless, well equipped accommodation with plenty of room for our party of seven adults. Short drive to great walks up Snowdon and from Beddgelert. Would highly recommend a stay here for the tranquil setting and as a base for exploring the area.

Yet another amazing stay at this beautiful cottage, if you want to call it that. To us, it’s home. We first fell in-love with this beauty 9 years ago. The home, the sheep fields and the spectacular views made our stay a memorable one. 9 years later we’re back with our 3 children, much older. We love the downstairs open concept living area, with kitchen, dining and family room with fireplace for us all to enjoy together. The kitchen is well stocked and the bigger refrigerator was perfect along with the small deep freeze for all our home made meals. The four bedrooms fit us all perfectly. Giving our older children space to themselves along with beautiful views from each window. The two bathrooms are wonderful to have and very conveniently located, one up and one down. The surrounding sheep fields lulled us to sleep and woke us gently each morning. This time around we were able to enjoy the baby sheep frolicking around with each other. The windows are big and bright and are open all the time when we’re here. The air is crisp and clear and perfect for revitalising your spirits. The addition of the game room was a great joy this time, as we all had a great time with darts and pool. We love that the house has a washer and dryer and hanging line as well. It’s perfect for long stays and long hikes through the surrounding waking paths. It’s the perfect location for us with horse riding right down the road, pottery painting and a short drive to Llanberis and Caernarfon. We can’t speak more highly about this wonderful cottage. I hope we can make it back sooner rather than later! Thank you so much for another memorable holiday!!! Many pictures were taken to keep this gem in our hearts.

A beautiful cottage, in an idyllic setting: the whole of Snowdon on the doorstep one way, and only a 15 minute drive to Caernarfon the other. Lovely people, including the helpful and friendly cottage owner. The cottage itself was very warm, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. Many thanks for a lovely holiday.

Lovely cottage, everything that you would need for a fantastic stay. Warm, cosy and extremely clean. Lovely walks right from the front door. The games room was a hit with the children. Would definitely stay again. Excellent communication with owners.

We had a fantastic family holiday in the Cottage. It is very spacious, spotlessly clean and perfect for a family get together. Sure you have to drive a couple of minutes along a bumpy track but this isn’t a problem and the pay back is a stunning and isolated setting. The weather was fantastic during our stay so we didn’t use the log burner but I could imagine this would be a real bonus to return to a cosy fire in the winter months. I don’t know if Wi-fi in the area has been upgraded but we found it to very good during our stay. We would definitely return.

I stayed here for the second time to attempt Snowdon. There was 8 of us and the cottage has plenty of space to accommodate us. I love the open space and log fire and hot tub. Bad weather stopped me attempting snowdon for the second time but we had a lovely walk around the lake in Llanberis! Fantastic location and beautiful, clean, spacious cottage! Will definitely return for a third time next year! Thanks!

If you want to “get away from it all” for a peaceful break with your immediate family or a few friends, then this is the place for you. The cottage is a converted barn that has been beautifully renovated in a naturally beautiful, and slightly remote, part of North Wales. Despite this, you are only 20 minutes from Caernarvon, with all the attractions it has to offer. The cottage is well furnished, and the beds very comfortable. The open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area suited us perfectly, as it allowed us to converse no matter what we were doing. We had a fabulous weekend there – and I could see myself wanting to go back for a longer stay.
