Foodie Gifts From North Wales….

Published on 6 Nov 2014 by Gwion Llwyd

Its no secret that being a foodie these days is up there in the cool stakes…….garlic mayonnaise is now commonly referred to as aoli, chilli jam goes with everything and salad creme is definitely something you eat in secret!

North Wales is home to many small, artisan food brands that are fast becoming popular and we love them not only because they put us on that ‘cool’ foodie map, but they also taste delicious! So if you’re looking to give your friends and family something different for Christmas that also tick the useful box, look no further as here is a list of the best foodie gifts from North Wales ….

The Snowdonia Cheese Company: With names like the Little Black Bomber, Green Thunder and Red Devil , the cheese board has gone up a few notches from a simple offering of cheddar and red leicester. Beautifully packaged in colourful waxes, these cheeses will be a hit for whoever you buy for and a welcome addition to the Christmas table.

Patchwork Pate: handmade in Ruthin, they offer a whole range of products as well as their signature pate, including houmous, chutney, spelt biscuits and relishes, all of which can be ordered off their website. These kooky, colourfully packaged products are really cute and different.

Blodyn Aur (pronounced: Blodin Ire) make a whole host of rapeseed oils including original, chilli, smoked and garlic. With all this talk of rapeseed oil being healthier to cook with, getting a set of these under the tree would certainly get my seal of approval.

Halen Mon (pronounced Halen Morn): The original Angelsey sea salts…. and they come in a number of flavours including: original, celery, chilli, smoked, spiced and vanilla. As if that’s not enough, they also have a charcoal salt; a black salt which is used to give that finishing touch to your cooking. These are certainly something that most people would love to have the full collection of, but never feel they can quite justify getting – another winner under the tree!

Calon Lan: is a small range of condiments including: mint, horse radish, apple and redcurrant sauces along with a chilli jam. A good mix of great tasting everyday condiments.

Nom Nom: whilst these guys are not from North Wales (they are from West Wales if we are to be pedantic), we wanted to include them – a wonderful range of chocolate where flavours include: Flame Roasted Hazelnut, Cointreau Orange Marmalade, Mint 72, Wild Welsh Honey Comb, Halen Mon and Caramel, Breckon 5 and Vodka, Strawberry and Goose 72 and last but by no means least, Lavender!

Rhug Farm: Rhug Farm is an organic Farm in the heart of North Wales and offer the most amazing meat hampers along with all the added condiments you could want for. Now there are hundreds of people out there who are impossible to buy for and so we think that in these cases, you should visit www.Rhugfarm.co.uk and book them in a hamper of some kind….beautifully presented and definitely something for those difficult to please…..unless they are veggie of course!
