Take your horse on holiday

Fancy Taking Your Horse On Holiday?

Pet Friendly Just Took On A New Meaning! I am not a ‘horsey’ person by nature, but I have to say that the idea of trekking on horse back through the Snowdonia mountains by day and cantering along the beaches by evening is quite simply one of the nicest. Dioni has just upped the ante when it comes to pet friendly by offering cottages that allow you to bring your horse along with you. With stabling and grazing available for a nominal fee, if you’re a keen horse rider, this is great news – imagine taking your horse on holiday?! The Snowdonia region is unique with its wonderful mountainous and coastal views and bringing your own horse along allows you the freedom to go and take it all in at your own pace and in your own time. I honestly can’t think of a nicer way to explore the area. If you prefer the knowledge of…

What To Do With All The Blackberries

What To Do With All The Blackberries....

If you are lucky enough to be with us in sunny Snowdonia this September, you will find it hard to miss all the blackberries – the crop is good and there’s plenty for everyone. So what to do with all the blackberries? You could go all nouveau cuisine and spend hours boiling and reducing for some fan dangled jus or if you’re on holiday, a good old traditional Welsh blackberry pie or a Welsh blackberry pudding could be your preferred option – they are simple, quick and absolutely delicious. Welsh Blackberry Pie: Take an oven proof plate and roll enough short crust pastry to cover to the edges. Put 400g of your freshly picked blackberries over the pastry and sprinkle 200g of granulated sugar over the berries. Roll out the remaining pastry to cover the blackberries, using a fork to crimp the edges of the pastry together, trimming the edges as you go along. Prick the…

Snowdonia Swimming

Wild Swimming Snowdonia Style….

Wild Swimming Snowdonia Style, not only enriches the soul and pushes you out of your comfort zone, but quite honestly its really good fun! It always amazes me how many people visit Snowdonia without experiencing it. Snowdonia is full of waterfalls (Rheadar in Welsh) and rivers and its such a unique part of the area that if you come to visit, you really should jump into at least one waterfall pool. Its exciting, its fun, its an adventure, its a challenge and…. its free… There are many ways to enjoy the pleasures of wild swimming; be it getting suited and booted for a 1 mile lake swim with a group, or, like me, grab your kids, the dog and a towel and go forth looking for the waterfalls and river pools for a quick dunk or a swim around if the temperature allows! Yes, it is usually a cold affair jumping into the pools, but that’s…

Festival No 6

PORTMEIRION FESTIVAL NO 6

Portmeirion Festival No 6 is coming to Snowdonia for the third year running and is set to be the best yet. The festival has made the Daily Mail’s the top 10 UK Festivals as well as being voted Best New Festival and Best Small Festival. It is magical – hard not to be when the location is Portmeirion Village in North Wales. Clough Williams-Ellis created this little piece of the ‘Italian riviera’ in wales during the earlier part of the 1900 – a true visionary. A visit here transports you to a fantasy world of beautiful buildings and gardens. So what is it all about? They say its an intimate, bespoke weekend of music, arts and culture….it doesn’t disappoint. This year sees the likes of the Pet Shop Boys, Kellis, Beck and Nineh Cherry take to centre stage and the DJ line up is pretty good too with legendary Laurent Garnier, nordic disco king Todd Terje,…

Dog Friendly Snowdonia

If your four legged family members are coming on holiday with you, its good to know where you can go with them so they can join in as much of the holiday fun and frolics as possible….. The good news in that Snowdonia is a very dog friendly and so it’s not a question of whether they are allowed to go to places, it’s more of a question of what to choose….. For starters there are the vast number of walking routes available to you – whether you decide to go for the mountain trek or a more leisurely stroll around the forests and rivers, the choices are endless. A long as you’re dog is on a lead (due to sheep), they can join you on your adventure – the Snowdon train does not allow dogs but that doesn’t mean they can’t join you by foot to the summit – dogs can have bucket lists too!…

Large Self Catering Holiday Home Near Conwy | Sycamore-Cottage

“We had a great family reunion here over Christmas. Lots of space, good parking, great kitchen, great walks, beautiful surrounds. Huw & Sioned were wonderful if we needed anything. We couldn’t have stayed anywhere nicer. Thankyou so much!! Highly recommended.” – The Brophys, Melbourne. My husband and I stayed here in July with my parents and four children. Obviously, visiting as a large family we were really looking for a nice spacious, fully furnished self-catering cottage. We were pleased to see that, that was exactly what we got. We saw online that the cottage appeared to be nice and contemporary which is great if you’re looking for that ‘hotel-like experience’ where all your amenities are new and up to date. It was easy to settle in too as everything was really easy to use, a good thing when you’re visiting with three generations of the same family. I have to say, the fact that the cottage…

New Snowdonia Information Packs

Emma, here in the office, has been working hard preparing Local Snowdonia Information Packs for guests visiting our holiday cottages in Snowdonia, North Wales. Boring stuff like the nearest dentist and cash point etc as well as more interesting local knowledge like which beach is best and where you can get a good coffee. It’s only our opinion naturally, but nobody is paying us to be included so at least you know that there’s no hidden agenda. The first one for Harlech and the surrounding area is up and ready. We’ll hopefully be adding some more over the next few weeks. Have a look, see what you think. Let me know if there’s any other stuff you think we should include. Two Bedroom Seaside Holiday Cottage | Cornel-Glyd

“We were over the moon with our stay at Cornel Glyd. The cottage was beautifully presented, well equipped, and although in a group setting we felt secluded and not overlooked. The short distance to the beach was perfect for our dogs, who enjoyed their holiday as much as we did. We hope as dog owners we gave a good account of ourselves also, and that we would be welcome to return to this holiday venue in the future.” – Karen Anderson, Elan Valley We came here with our two teenage boys last year and we are on the verge of booking again. We had such a nice time; we thought it was only fair that we share our experience you and some of the activities we got up to that made our stay so special. We were looking for somewhere to stay over the summer that was really close to nature and with this cottage being…

Self Catering Barn Near Pwllheli, Llyn Peninsula - Bryncaled Diary

“Despite the inclement weather we all had a fabulous break in a delightful, well appointed cottage. It was close to all amenities and yet remote enough for peace and tranquility. Facilities were spot on, in fact we enjoyed it so much, we considered taking a few extra days onto our fortnight’s holiday, but unfortunately it was booked. It was our granddaughters 1st holiday, 1st time at the beach, 1st tooth, and 1st paddle in the sea, many other 1sts – so memorable we will have to do it again very shortly. Cannot recommend it highly enough.” – Alan Jones, Shropshire As it was such a lovely day, we decided we would spend our first day in Aberdaron so the girls could enjoy the beach. The village of Aberdaron, not too far from where we were staying could only be described as one of the most idyllic little seaside villages we’ve ever come across. Set right next…

Summer is coming

It’s been a tough winter here in Snowdonia. We’ve had falling trees, power outages and severe coastal flooding, but summer is coming! And it might be a hot one.. German Scientist, Armin Bunde of Justus Liedig University in Giessing is predicting one the driest summers on record. I’m sure he knows what he’s talking about. His new forecasting technique suggests the occurrence of the El Niño weather patterns his highly likely during the early summer of 2014. El Niño, the climate bad boy, as described in The New Scientist, can often lead to prolonged dry hot summers here in Northern Europe. Researchers at the University of Reading also suggest that the UK will return to pattern of much drier summers. It’s all down to the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation apparently. That and the long-term climate cycles in the Atlantic multi-decadal oscillation. Obviously!
