Local Artist Spotlight: Chloe Dymond
Published on 23 Jun 2020 by Amy GreenwoodWelcome to the very first edition of The Local Spotlight! When you visit North Wales, it’s easy to fall in love with the scenery – but it’s the people who truly bring this place to life. In this new 5-part series, we’re introducing you to the brilliant women behind our favourite local spaces, shops, and projects. Today, we’re stepping inside the world of..Chloe Dymond Design.
There is something incredibly special about an artist who can turn any blank space – whether it’s a canvas, a cafe window, or a public bench – into a source of pure joy. Meet Chloe Dymond, the creative powerhouse behind Chloe Dymond Design.

Based in North Wales, Chloe is a freelance visual artist who has built her life around ultimate creative freedom. While she used to create on the road in a campervan, she and her family have recently swapped it for a caravan to better suit their travels together, allowing her to masterfully juggle her thriving art business with motherhood to her 8-month-old baby girl. From vibrant public murals and striking, hand-painted window displays to hosting therapeutic mindful mandala workshops, Chloe’s mission remains beautifully simple: to bring joy to communities through adaptable, handcrafted art.
We sat down with Chloe to chat about her creative journey, balancing motherhood with business, and what inspires her vibrant work……
Q: The Vision: What inspired you to bring Chloe Dymond Design to life here in North Wales?
A: “North Wales is my home, I moved away for 8 years to complete studies and work in the ceramic industry, until I was eventually drawn back to the hills of home more so due to the pandemic of 2019.
It’s at this time where I became fully self employed and didn’t look back.
I’m often asked how and why it started.. and the honest answer is my mind never stops thinking of ideas and my mother’s house was a blank canvas. Her walls and windows were the first ones I painted and my work and enquiries snowballed from there. I have a lot to thank her for.“
Q: The Connection: How does this community or landscape influence the way you work or what you offer?
A: “In two parts – I have a longing to be in nature, specifically woodlands and magical ethereal landscapes, ones you’d imagine whilst reading a book. So much so we got married in a woodland amongst loved ones and the trees.
I adore painting and creating these scenes from subject but more often from memory and imagination.
With “community” I have quite literally given back to my local communities and home town through art work, whether that’s the gifted bus stop I painted opposite St.Asaph Cathedral or working with local communities and businesses to sponsor art work to brighten up local areas like benches.
Community also inspires me when I’m asked to create and paint for schools, inspiring the next generations of creatives, showing young children that art and creative industries CAN be an income.
Also working within hospitals, I was asked to paint a memorial mural in the North Wales Cancer Centre which not only meant a lot to the family but always all those that were using the communal room at present, a space where people could escape and unwind.
I’m fortunate to often be met with such wonderful people who have many kind words and appreciation for the art work and service I provide.“
Q: The High Street: What is the most rewarding part of running a local independent venture here?
A: “A lot of high streets are dying with lack of businesses trade funding visitors, the list goes on, but I find immense joy in painting windows and walls for local businesses that can bring a smile to the communities and visitor’s faces.
Window art and murals can increase a businesses engagement, footfall, sales and desirability within a community.
Making for a delightful memory of your trip.”
Q: The Perfect Day: If a holiday guest had just one afternoon to live like a local, where would you tell them to go?
A: “Oh gosh, there’s sooo many to see.
One wow location that ticks all boxes has to be Newborough Forest and beach over in Anglesey, the drive through the trees is beautiful, the long cascading beach, and the wonderful Ynys Llanddwyn with its lighthouse and shelled paths home of St Dwynwens Church.
Although in true local style you really can’t beat a bag of fish and chips sitting by the sea, saving your food from some pesky seagulls.
Our favourite is Rhos, on the sea front, or taking your dinner to drive up the Great Orme through the toll road to watch the sunset (where my Taid ((Welsh for granddad)) used to take your £2 on the toll gate most days)“
Q: The Inside Track: What is a “hidden gem” in our area that visitors often miss?
A: “As above the Great Orme toll road, and Angel Bays magnificent seals who bask in the sun.”
Q: The Sisterhood: Is there another local woman in business or the arts whose work you truly admire?
A: “Oh there’s so many wonderful creative people in our area!
- Elin of @thecontenthun her passion for helping local businesses and beyond strive through their social media is beyond admirable (a plus that she’s hilarious too)
- Sophie of @sophieelizabethweddings her attention to detail is next level when it comes to all things stationary
- Michelle of @painted_creations_by_me Wrexham based artist also specialising in window art and murals
- Debbie of @roylebakes cake designer, her fantastic occasion cakes, bakes and cake shed are truly to die for.”
