Reasons to Staycation in Snowdonia
Published on 11 Aug 2019 by Gwion LlwydOver a third of Britons are expected to take a staycation this year; taking advantage of what we have on our doorstep. For those of you have already decided to do the whole staycation thing, then here are some reasons why we think you should make your destination Snowdonia, North Wales. For those of you who hadn’t thought about a staycation yet, maybe we can change your mind. Here are our reasons to staycation in Snowdonia…
Less Travel Time And More Relaxing
Snowdonia is only a five hour drive from London and only three from larger cities like Birmingham and Liverpool. Imagine the ease of loading everyone into the car (with no baggage weight restrictions), closing the doors and driving off with a couple of stops at the motorway services. Compared with all the palava of getting a flight, you could already be unpacked and drinking a glass of wine all in the same time it would take you to get to check in on a flight!
Environmentally Friendly
You’ll be doing your bit for the planet. They say that the one thing we can all do to really help the environment is to cut our carbon footprint. The easiest way to do this is to stop flying or certainly reduce it. This is a big plus as a reason to staycation in Snowdonia!
Perfect For Extended Family Holidays
If you are looking to get different members of your extended family together, then a staycation is a really great solution as it’s much more accessible than a trip abroad. With multiple cars in the mix it also gives an element of independence which is fab if people want to do different things. Whilst we all love the idea of spending quality time with our family, it’s good to have the option to do separate things and meet at the end of the day… especially when you enter days four and five!
Sense of Familiarity
The sense of familiarity of everyday things such as money, language, driving, food makes it much easier to enjoy your holiday from the off. It’s great to experience different cultures and places, but it can take a few days to get yourself acclimated with your surroundings. If you have limited time on your holiday, this can make a real difference and help you enjoy and relax much more of your time away and being in Wales, you still get the chance to experience a different language!
The Landscape is Simply Breathtaking
Taking in some beautiful scenery is part of the holiday experience. Whether that be golden beaches, rugged mountains, beautiful lakes or quaint towns, Snowdonia has it all and you are spoilt for choice. We have some stunning properties in beautiful locations throughout the area that will take your breath away and certainly give you the space to just sit back and get your fill of rest and relaxation whilst on holiday. A massive reason to staycation in Snowdonia.
There is Such a Variety of Things to do
You simply cannot be bored in Snowdonia. There is so much to do; offering different experiences across the area. Whether it is spending days on the beach, riding the fastest zip line in the world, riding on a steam train, playing golf on some of the most beautiful courses in the world, going to music festivals, climbing the highest mountain in England and Wales or driving down the steepest road in the world – the choices are endless. There are not many places in the world where you can spend the day on the beach and then drive for 5 mins to rinse off in a waterfall.
You Are Not Weather Dependant
We won’t lie, it can rain in Snowdonia. It’s what makes the place so incredibly beautiful and why we can offer such a variety of things to do. There are lots of fantastic castles, museums, attractions like Electric Mountain, Portmeirion, or going on a steam train. Of course, you can always just make sure you have the correct gear and walk, swim and enjoy the great outdoors… as Alfred Wainwright said “There is no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing”.
The Accommodation Options Are Endless
There are so many options for accommodation that will suit all budgets and group sizes. At Dioni, we pride ourselves on offering beautiful properties, in beautiful locations. From studio apartments to manor houses that sleep 16, they are all unique and offer something different, be that the location or interiors.
Escape The Madding Crowd But Still Get a Good Meal
Being in a rural location is what many people dream of when they staycation in Snowdonia. One advantage Snowdonia offers is that you can be in a quiet idyllic spot but still not too far from the comforts of modern life. We’re a relatively small national park and benefit from an active and vibrant local community. There are lots of small villages and towns scattered throughout the area. So if you want a theatre or museum to explore or a cafe or restaurant serving great local food, we should be able to help.
Sense of History
If you want history and culture, then look no further – our mountains, lakes and rivers are bursting at the seams with myths, legends and folklore – even our seas show the crossing path of St Patrick to Ireland! Castles, wizards, dragons, Knights, King Arthur and the oldest prose in history, The Mabinogion are set in the Snowdonia mountains. Our mountains were filled with gold which to this day still make the wedding rings for the royal family and during WW2 The National Gallery stored their paintings in our mountains.
