TOP 10 TRIATHLONS & MARATHONS NORTH WALES 2017

If you’ve embraced the New Year on a high of getting fit, one of the best ways to keep you motivated is to focus on a goal and you cant beat the challenge of a half/full marathon or triathon to get you on that path. There are so many great races to take part in over North Wales and the incredible landscape lends itself to cater for all abilities. So without further ado, here are the Top 10 Triathlons & Marathons North Wales 2017:


 

ANGLESY HALF MARATHON

Sunday 5th March 2017
The route is undulating yet quick but most of all it is incredibly stunning. Starting on the iconic Menai Suspension Bridge and running in front of the gorgeous Snowdonia backdrop, this race is truly one of a kind. The race provides the perfect pre-London and Manchester marathon preparation.


 

WAVES, MUD AND MOUNTAINS

Sunday 26th March 2017
Surf Snowdonia are launching this competition for 2017. The challenging circuit will pit competitors against the legendary natural elements of the majestic Conwy Valley – its waves, mud and mountains! Distance-wise, it’s short but intense, but this little number is going to test your stamina, agility and mental strength to the max.


 

HARLECH TRIATHLON

Sunday 9th April 2017
400m Novice-friendly swim in Harlech Pool, 21k cycle route out and back with a turnaround in the centre of Harlech and finally a 3 mile run on the UK’s most spectacular run route, over the dunes and beautiful sands of Harlech Beach, culminating with the 200 steps to Storm the Castle.


 

THE SLATE MAN TRIATHLON

Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st May 2017
A swim surrounded with mountains, a bike course in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park and a run through an awesome slate quarry – we challenge you to find a more iconic race than the Slateman Triathlon.
Gwion has entered this year so we will make sure we update you on his time!


 

ABERSOCH TRIPPLE CROWN

Saturday 3rd June 2017: HENRI LLOYD ABERSOCH 10K
Saturday 17th June 2017: ABERSOCH SPRINT TRIATHLON
Saturday 16th September 2017: CHAPARRAL ABERSOCH HALF MARATHON

The Abersoch Triple Crown is a race series like no other. Consisting of 3 challenging races it combines your times from the Abersoch 10K, Sprint Triathlon & Half Marathon to provide your overall Triple Crown time. SALAMON TRAIL MARATHON WALES 2017

Saturday 17th June, 2017
The Salomon Trail Marathon Wales will have full and half marathon race routes in the stunning trails and tracks of the world-renowned Coed y Brenin forest in the Snowdonia National Park. This unique marathon is already established as one of Wales’ finest trail marathons taking in fully marked trail single track, forest roads and paths in some of the most stunning forestry and heathland in the UK.


 

SNOWDONIA TRAIL MARATHON

Sunday 23rd July 2017
The SCOTT Snowdonia Trail Marathon is a challenge in every sense of the word. Ascending 1,685 metres over 26 miles of iconic and spectacular trails, this epic race will circumnavigate and eventually climb Wales’ highest peak – Snowdon. The incredible route explores the trails, gorgeous panoramic views and tough climbs that make Snowdonia National Park such a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. Visiting Rhyd Ddu, Beddgelert, Nant Gwynant, Pen y Pass and Snowdon, there surely can’t be a more striking trail marathon route in the UK!


 

THE SNOWDONIA SWIM

Saturday 29th July 2017
So this dosnt fall into the marathon / triathon category, but I think it’s something a little special and i’m quite tempted to sign up for this one myself…. a chance to experience an incredible open water swim race in the stunning Llynnau Mymbyr, in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. A full mile or half mile distance is on offer, so come and experience this unique adventure at Plas y Brenin this Summer.


 

THE SANDMAN TRIATHLON

Saturday 17th September: Junior Tri; Sprint; Savage (Day 1)
Sunday 18th September: Full; Savage (Day 2); Legend 72.4

The Sandman Triathlon race venue is incredible Newborough Forest, the start and finish set in an exclusive area within the 700ha woods adjacent to the world famous Llanddwyn Beach.

The Anglesey Sandman Triathlon has something for all abilities and comprises of four distances, the Legend 72.4, Savage, Full and Sprint. You will also be able to compete as a relay team in both the full and sprint distances.


 

BETWS Y COED TRAIL RUN

Saturday 11th November 2017
10k & 5k Trail race and separate 10k Canicross in the woods around Betws-y-Coed in association with Help for Heroes.
