Set deep in an idyllic Welsh valley the kind where the loudest noise is a sheep's opinion Stabal-Y-Rhiw is a three-bedroom barn conversion near Aberporth that blends original rustic charm with thoughtful modern touches.

Part of a peaceful group of five converted barns on a 13-acre farm, the property is full of character, from its thick stone walls to the exposed oak beams and cosy corners. Step through the door and you’ll find yourself in a kitchen that’s equal parts functional and charming. Recently updated, it features a Smeg oven, ceramic hob, coffee machine, fridge freezer and all the usual appliances, with white metro tiles and slate-grey flooring adding a crisp modern edge. The dining table comfortably seats six and sits between two windows one with courtyard views, the other out to fields where horses and pigs graze contentedly.

Next stop: the living room, where two inviting sofas face a log-burning stove, ideal for warming toes and hearts after a windswept coastal walk. A Smart TV handles any tech needs, but frankly, the best screen is through the French doors leading onto your own private raised deck. The view? A sweeping, tranquil woodland valley that practically begs you to sit with a glass of wine and contemplate buying a Welsh dictionary.

There are three bedrooms across the two floors. The bunk room downstairs is snug and cheerful, great for kids or single guests. Upstairs, the master bedroom is delightfully spacious, with its own walk-in wardrobe, front and rear windows, a dressing table and a little wicker seating nook for peaceful morning coffee.

The second double bedroom, likely once the stable hand’s quarters, has its own external stone staircase a wonderfully quirky feature that also means you can sneak out early for walks without waking the whole house.

The family bathroom is another modern gem: recently renovated with a full-size bath, Roper Rhodes rainwater shower, and a glowing LED-lit mirror for the ultimate post-adventure pamper.

And just in case there’s a shared laundry room on site with washer, dryer, and ironing board (we don’t recommend using the latter unless absolutely necessary).

Location

Stabal-Y-Rhiw is nestled in a private corner of West Wales near Aberporth, surrounded by nature, farm life and plenty of reasons to put your phone down. Located at the end of a no-through road, it’s child-friendly, dog-friendly, and just plain friendly. The farm is home to a mini menagerie: a gypsy cob, a Shetland pony, kune kune pig, and roaming chickens.

The 13-acre smallholding is ideal for walking, wildlife watching, or letting the kids burn off energy in the play area with slide and swings. You’re within 3 miles of Aberporth Beach, and close to Cardigan, a vibrant market town with shops, cafés and pubs. Walkers will love the Ceredigion Coast Path, and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is just a short drive away for more dramatic landscapes and secret coves.

If your idea of heaven is a bit of farm life, a sea breeze, and somewhere to dry your boots by the fire, Stabal-Y-Rhiw has you covered.

Fantastic location, and a beautiful cosy cottage, thoroughly enjoyed our stay, great walks from the front door, quiet location, close to beaches and coastal paths. Owners really friendly and on site if needed. Visited coastal resorts from New Quay down to St David’s. Would highly recommend.
