Our Top 5 cottages for visiting castles in North Wales

Published on 21 Aug 2023 by Amy Greenwood

Visiting our beautiful heritage attractions – especially our atmospheric medieval castles – is one of the great pleasures of spending time in North Wales.

The sense of drama and history, and of walking in the footsteps as those who have gone before, is captivating. Losing yourself in the whispers of history – even if you slightly mishear them – is totally absorbing. It’s something that we love to do.

North Wales is famous for its castles: we have some of the most magnificent – and best-preserved – medieval fortresses in the world. They sit proud and strong, looking out over towns, hillsides, coastlines, and valleys.

Our castles come in all shapes and sizes, from converted manor houses to weathered stone keeps and medieval ruins. The UNESCO World Heritage sites at Conwy, Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Harlech stand apart from the crowd as arguably the most famous, and perhaps most beautiful, castles in the country.

So next time you’re visiting North Wales, why not take a few hours to wander, and see where your imagination takes you. Take a look at our top 5 holiday cottages for exploring castles in North Wales.
