Cosy Autumn Stays in North Wales

Published on 5 Oct 2026 by Amy Greenwood

The Autumn is one of the best times of year for visiting North Wales. The forests are vibrant, the weather is cooler which is perfect for hiking and spending time in the outdoors. And the earlier sunsets and chillier evenings are perfect for wrapping up in front of a fire, or relaxing in a hot tub.

Here at Dioni, we offer something for everyone, so if you want to experience the beauty of Autumn in North Wales, here are 4 cosy properties in some of the best locations to soak in all that Autumn colour.

1. ENCHANTING CHARACTER COTTAGE IN THE HEART OF SOUTH ERYRI | BOETHUOG

Situated in South Eryri, near the town of Dolgellau, this charming, characterful cottage is the perfect base for exploring the beautiful woodlands of Coed Y Brenin and Coed Glanllwyd. This stone cottage looks like something out of a fairytale. Surrounded by trees that will look gorgeous with their autumn foliage, this cottage sleeps up to 7 guests, is dog friendly, and has a real log burner in the spacious but cosy living room. This property is perfect for a family get-together or for a trip away with friends. Completely surrounded by nature, but close enough to amenities in Dolgellau, a short drive to the coast in Barmouth, and within an hour from the heart of Eryri National Park.

This property has availability in October and November and if you’d like inspiration for an autumnal walk in the area, we recommend visiting the ancient woodland Coed Glanllwyd and Rhaedr Ddu waterfalls.

2. TWO BEDROOM HOLIDAY COTTAGE NEAR LLANDDWYN BEACH | TY-CHI

Ty Chi is a two bedroom holiday cottage near Llanddwyn beach on the island of Anglesey. Sleeping four, this beautiful and elegant barn conversion has the added benefit of a private garden with great views towards the Menai Straits and out over the mountains of Eryri.

We love this property because it’s close to one of Anglesey and North Wales’ most beautiful destinations, Newborough Beach & Llanddwyn Island. The forest at Newborough is perfect for an Autumn walk, it’s often sheltered from the coast and with plenty of designated walking trails through the trees, it’s a truly peaceful place to explore. And be sure to keep an eye out for the red squirrels as Newborough Forest is one of the few places in Wales where they can be spotted.

We chose this property because of its cosy log burner in the living room which also boasts floor to ceiling windows with stunning views across the nearby fields. On a chilly Autumn day after a fresh walk along the beach, this is the ideal place to wrap up warm by the fire and enjoy some rest and relaxation.

3. CHARMING BOHEMIAN-INSPIRED CABIN WITH HOT TUB | GEZELLIG-LOG-CABIN

Escape to Gezellig Log Cabin, a cosy, bohemian-inspired retreat in the heart of North Wales, near the popular town of Bala. At Gezellig, luxury and tranquillity combine to create the perfect romantic getaway. This charming log cabin is ideal for couples with its outdoor hot tub, and cosy living space complete with log burner.

We love this property because it’s located right in the middle of two of North Wales’ most picturesque areas. To the west you’ll find Eryri National Park and to the east, you’ll find the Dee Valley and Clwydian Range which is a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In such a beautiful location, with so much to offer, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to Autumnal walks and things to do in the outdoors, safely in the knowledge that, whatever the weather, you’ll have a warm and cosy cabin to return to.

This cabin is situated on the Rivercatcher Estate, and is one of a number of similar cabins that can be booked on the estate so why not browse our listings and book your perfect stay.

4. DEER PARK LODGE – DOLGELLAU

A beautiful, romantic one bedroom cottage in the hills above Dolgellau, Deer Park Lodge is a fairytale property that really shines in the Autumn. The building is an entrance lodge to the ancient deer park of the Nannau Estate in Dolgellau – You’ll struggle to find a cosier, more charming place to stay, and for couples wanting a cosy getaway and a peaceful secluded escape, this property is definitely one to consider. And yes, you might well spot some deer!

The property itself offers the perfect blend of modern comfort and traditional charm. The log burner in the living room is a welcome sight after a day out walking in the forest of Coed Y Brenin.

Walking and exploring the local area is a must at this property. There are several beautiful walking routes surrounding the property, including some that take in the scenery of the Nannau Estate. The circular three mile Nannau Deer Park walk passes by the cottage and takes in views of the other stunning and historical buildings of the estate. Nearby, the Precipice Walk is a two mile circular walk which offers panoramic views of the Mawddach River valley and the mountains of Eryri beyond.

The property also comes with a wood-fired Scandinavian hot tub, a perfect way to unwind after all that walking! We’ll be sure to leave some logs to help you get the fire started. We’ll also be sure to leave you some chocolates and wine for you on arrival.
