Located on the banks of the River Dee in Denbighshire, Cilan is the perfect dog friendly property for a large getaway with family and friends. This luxury traditional farmhouse in rural Wales dates back over 400 years, and has been beautifully renovated to provide all the modern comforts for a relaxing and comfortable stay. Surrounded by stunning countryside with river views, this five bedroom farmhouse sleeps ten people and sits on the small but stylish Rivercatcher complex of historic cottages and luxury log cabins.

A pathway leads to the front door of the handsome double fronted stone property which retains many of its original features. The sash windows finished in a sage colour are complemented by the glazed porch with matching colour scheme, surrounded by fragrant lavender. Stepping through the front door leads to a small hallway with stairs straight ahead and doors to both sides - one leading to a ground floor bedroom and the other into a TV Room. With two fabric sofas positioned in an L shape around a coffee table, a wall mounted Smart TV is mounted on the chimney breast, making this the perfect room to settle down and relax in the evenings after a day out exploring. A second door leads through to the property's open plan dining room, breakfast room and stunning kitchen.

The character of the property comes to life in the spacious dining room, with a slate tiled floor and chunky wooden ceiling beams. A solid wood dining table seating ten takes centre stage in this bright space, alongside a log burner for those colder evenings. Beyond the dining room, a breakfast room includes a secondary, smaller round dining table with wicker seated dining chairs, which is also a great breakout space for the younger members of the group. There is a small downstairs toilet just off the dining area with a small round table and 4 chairs.

This well equipped kitchen is ideal for guests wishing to cook up some hearty meals during their stay. With ample cupboard and counter space, the wooden kitchen units are finished in a shaker style with cream coloured doors and dark stone effect worktops. A white Belfast sink is positioned to one end, and a large range oven with hob is located centrally against the side wall. With a built in fridge freezer and dishwasher, the kitchen also includes a built in microwave and the staple kettle, toaster and coffee making equipment.

Completing the ground floor layout, a beautiful and bright lounge area is accessed via the dining room. This room, located in an extension to the property includes a glazed wall with French doors overlooking a spacious patio and garden. With natural light cascading in through the glazing, this lounge has the feel of a sun room or conservatory, with oak wood strip flooring, soft brown leather sofas and a cosy armchair tucked into the corner. A wonderful spot to sit in the evening, doors open, listened to the sounds of birdsong and the nearby river.

With five bedrooms in this luxury traditional farmhouse in rural Wales, one on the ground floor and the other four upstairs, there is versatility for different group types. All bedrooms feature an en-suite with either walk in shower or a bathtub with shower over, two of the bedrooms have a Super king sized bed, with the other two bedrooms having King sized bed with the option of converting three rooms into twin rooms if preferred. Whilst all large in size, the bedrooms all have their own unique character and colour palettes. All bedrooms are decorated with a modern finish, featuring grey divan beds with high fabric headboards. Throws and soft furnishings in different colour schemes provide a different feel to each room, and some include antique style furniture, while others have a mix of modern and traditional. All en-suite bathrooms have wood effect flooring, alongside modern fixtures and fittings providing a luxury experience for each and every guest.

The private garden and outdoor space of Cilan adds further charm to this unique property. Accessed via the lounge or kitchen, a large tiled patio features an outdoor dining table and chairs, alongside a number of rattan sunbeds. Summer evenings can be spent dining alfresco in this beautiful garden surrounded by trees, offering glimpses of the river and rolling hills of North East Wales. There's also a barbeque on hand to make the most of those summer evenings. This social space also features a large hot tub set aside from the patio, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing soak while taking in the surrounding scenery. This fully enclosed garden is also ideal for children and dogs, with a large lawn area.

Location

Given the stunning interiors and setting of this beautiful property, you'd be forgiven for wanting to stay here during the whole of your stay, but there is much to explore in the local area. The Rivercatcher site includes The Lodge - a games room which is only a few steps away from this luxury traditional farmhouse in rural Wales, providing a change of scenery for the teenagers and younger children. With table tennis and football, amongst other things, it's the perfect spot to while away a few hours. To stock up on supplies for a self-catering break, the fantastic Rhug Estate Farm Shop is located nearby, packed with local produce and a great cafe.

This property is in the perfect location for outdoor enthusiasts and those who enjoy water sports and activities, just fifteen minutes' drive from Bala. Llyn Tegid, also known as Bala Lake, is the largest natural lake in Wales, measuring four miles long and three quarters of a mile wide. There are many walking paths in the area, as well as heritage routes that are good for families and more strenuous walks that offer a greater challenge. Numerous activities are offered on the lake and in the surrounding region by the Bala Adventure and Watersports Centre, which is situated on the northern banks of Llyn Tegid. Have a go at one of the water sports, such as windsurfing, sailing, or kayaking; alternatively, rent a boat or paddle board and head out onto the water for a more leisurely experience. Mountain biking and abseiling are among the several activities also offered. The Bala Lake Railway is another popular attraction which provides a leisurely nine-mile round trip along the banks of Llyn Tegid, offering views of the lake as well as the breathtaking surroundings of the Snowdonia National Park.

Exploring the Denbighshire countryside further north and east, Cilan is a thirty minute drive from Ruthin, a market town full of charming buildings and timber-framed architecture that dates back hundreds of years. There are lots of restaurants to pick from, along with fantastic boutique stores, a craft centre, and a thriving food scene. Additionally, Llangollen, a charming historic riverbank town with the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is not too far away. Hikers can head to the Clwydian Range AONB, where there is access to endless hiking and walking trails nearby including Moel Famau, the highest peak in North East Wales. A rewarding hike to the Jubilee Tower at the summit will provide panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Grab your hiking boots and take a walk on the Offa's Dyke Path through heather clad rolling hills and past ancient hillforts. Head further south into the unspoilt landscapes of the Ceiriog Valley where you can take walks through beautiful countryside without barely seeing a soul.

First of all should point out the location is really in the middle of nowhere.
Everywhere is a drive and I doubt that there is much in the way of taxis or Ubers.
That said they have an efficient food delivery service operating which means you
may never really need to use a car if you didn’t want to.
To the house is fantastic – has absolutely EVERYTHING you could need. Incredibly
warm and cosy, very well-equipped. Loved that each bedroom had its own bathroom.
So stylish. Loved the gift basket, loved the hot tub ready from the get-go. Really
cannot fault it and I am a very demanding customer. Stayed in many places and this
has to be right up there at the top.

As a party of 8 people, we stayed in the farmhouse for 7 lovely nights. This property
has a fab location and setting, with a beautiful rural view from the back–the perfect
place to relax in the hot tub! Amazing, spacious & stylish house that is perfect for a
group of friends or family. All credit to Aled, George and the other staff who keep the
grounds in tip-top order. Everything is spotless and beautifully presented. So much to
do we definitely want to stay again, and would recommend Rivercatcher without hesitation to anyone. Thank you, Andy and team, for a really special holiday.

A Christmas family break
5 out of 5
After many visits to Rivercatcher we decided this time to have a family break and
stay in Cilan House. What a wonderful few days it was, everybody had such an
enjoyable time that we have already decided to book for next year. Even the dogs
thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of the secure garden . A great highlight, especially
for the teenagers, was the hot tub. The games room also was a hit.
The atmosphere was very festive with all the outside Christmas lights and the indoor
Christmas trees and decorations.
