Location

Given the stunning interiors and setting of this beautiful property, you'd be forgiven for wanting to stay inside during the whole of your stay, but there is much to explore in the local area. The Rivercatcher site includes The Lodge - a games room which is only a few steps from this south facing barn conversion with private hot tub, which provides a great change of scenery for the teenagers and younger children. With table tennis and football, amongst other things, it's the perfect spot to while away a few hours. To stock up on supplies for a self-catering break, the fantastic Rhug Estate Farm Shop is located nearby, packed with local produce and a great cafe.

This property is in the perfect location for outdoor enthusiasts and those who enjoy water sports and activities, just fifteen minutes' drive from Bala. Llyn Tegid, also known as Bala Lake, is the largest natural lake in Wales, measuring four miles long and three quarters of a mile wide. There are many walking paths in the area, as well as heritage routes that are good for families and more strenuous walks that offer a greater challenge. Numerous activities are offered on the lake and in the surrounding region by the Bala Adventure and Watersports Centre, which is situated on the northern beaches of Llyn Tegid. Take a go at one of the water sports, such as windsurfing, sailing, or kayaking; alternatively, rent a boat or paddle board and head out onto the water for a more leisurely experience. Mountain biking and abseiling are among the several activities offered. For every person, there is something. The Bala Lake Railway is another highly-liked attraction. It provides a leisurely nine-mile round trip along the banks of Llyn Tegid, offering views of the lake and its local animals as well as the breathtaking surroundings of the Snowdonia National Park.

Exploring the Denbighshire countryside further north and east, Gamekeepers is a thirty minute drive from the market town of Ruthin, a market town full of charming homes and timber-framed architecture that dates back hundreds of years. There are lots of restaurants to pick from, along with fantastic boutique stores, a craft centre, and a thriving food culture. Additionally, Llangollen, a charming historic riverbank town with the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Canal, is not too far away. Hikers can head to the Clwydian Range AONB, where there is access to endless hiking and walking trails nearby including to Moel Famau, the highest peak in North East Wales. A rewarding hike to the Jubilee Tower at the summit will provide panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Grab your hiking boots and take a walk on the Offa's Dyke Path through heather clad rolling hills and past ancient hillforts. Head further south into the unspoilt landscapes of the Ceiriog Valley where you can take walks through beautiful countryside without barely seeing a soul.

Fabulous stay in a wonderful well well-equipped property with everything we needed.

5 out of 5
We enjoyed a fabulous stay at Gamekeepers Cottage in Rivercatcher. The setting was
stunning with the river flowing past our large private garden. Hot tub was very popular with
views all around. The cottage was clean, spacious and well maintained with everything we
could possibly need. Staff were polite and friendly. The Lodge with table football and ping
pong was an excellent extra – though thanks to reasonably good weather we weren't stuck
indoors too much. The location, on the edge of Snowdonia, was convenient for getting
around – about an hour to the coast, an hour to Snowdon and everywhere else North Wales
has to offer. All in all a great week and we were sad to leave – 2 weeks next time!

Our 15th stay at Gamekeepers Cottage. Need I say more ! Extremely comfortable 4
bedroom cottage with spectacular views over the valley and the River Dee running alongside
the property. Fully equipped kitchen, hot tub in the garden very comfortable beds ! Andy and
his team make sure your stay goes without a hitch. Have already booked again to return to
Rivercatcher (the Farmhouse this time as there are 10 of us)

Lovely Christmas stay
5 out of 5
We had a lovely stay at the Gamekeeperā€™s Cottage this Christmas with family. We all loved
the cottage which was spotless, comfortable and a joy to stay at. Our 2 dogs had plenty of
room to run in the garden, especially whilst we spent time in the large hot tub!
The kitchen was excellently equipped, with plenty of utensils etc and more than enough glasses,
cups plates etc.
The staff were always on hand for any recommendations and help, they do such a good job
at keeping the areas tidy for everyone. The location was secluded but handy for walks etc,
we visited a few places all within 15/20mins.
Absolutely no complaints other than the sofas were too comfortable! The weather was
appalling but you canā€™t help that, the fire in the living room was a welcome retreat with a
mulled wine after a wet and windy walk with the dogs.
We will definitely be returning and couldnā€™t recommend Rivercatcher enough.
