Welcome to Ffawydd-Y-Ffynnon, your very own slice of Pembrokeshire paradise - where the loudest neighbours are the alpacas and the only commute is from the hot tub to the hammock.

This single-storey lodge is part of Wellstone Cottages, a small cluster of countryside hideaways on a friendly working smallholding just 20 minutes from Cardigan. Here, you’ll swap traffic for birdsong and inboxes for riverbanks - all with a touch of comfort and a lot of charm.

Step inside to find a spacious open-plan kitchen and living area, where modern navy cabinetry meets warm wooden tones. The large flat-screen smart TV is ready for movie nights, but you may prefer to simply gaze out across the meadows. The dining table is set for family suppers, and the fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to cook up breakfast before the day’s adventures.

Sleeping arrangements are as easy as a Welsh Sunday: a double bedroom with en suite, a twin room, and a cosy bunk room that’s perfect for younger guests. There’s also a stylish family bathroom for everyone else to share.

Outside, things get really special. The private patio overlooks green fields and a few curious alpacas - best enjoyed from your bubbling hot tub with something cold in hand. There’s also a BBQ and fire pit, plus an outdoor dining area for al-fresco evenings. You can wander down through your private garden to the river, or find a shady spot in one of the cotton hammocks dotted around the estate.

As a pet-friendly cottage, even the four-legged family members are welcome (we’ve met them all - dogs, cats, even the odd tortoise). The smallholding is home to a cheerful menagerie of alpacas, goats, ducks, chickens, geese, rabbits, guinea pigs, and two sociable cats, Peg and Fez. Little ones are invited to join Les on animal-feeding rounds a few times a week - the sort of holiday memory that sticks.

Accessibility has been considered too: Ffawydd-Y-Ffynnon is suitable for assisted wheelchair users, with a ground-floor layout and minimal steps. And when you do fancy venturing out, there’s a pub within a mile, plus 23 acres of private grounds and a disused railway walk along the River Taf where dogs can roam off-lead.

If you’re travelling with friends or extended family, you’ll be glad to know there are a few more gorgeous cottages dotted around the farm, so everyone can have their own space - and still meet up for sundowners by the alpacas.

So whether you’re here for family fun, peaceful paddling, or just a good long soak with an alpaca view, Ffawydd-Y-Ffynnon makes a truly tranquil farm stay with heart, humour, and hot water bubbles.

Location

Set deep in the Pembrokeshire countryside, Ffawydd-Y-Ffynnon is part of the Wellstone Cottages estate, also known by its Welsh name Nantyweirglodd Isaf - “Lower Hay Meadow by the Stream.” It’s a fitting title for this 23-acre haven of pasture, woodland, and riverside walks.

The Orb stream runs along the edge of the estate before joining the River Taf, where you’ll find hidden pools for wild swimming, tranquil fishing spots, and a disused railway track that makes a perfect year-round walking trail. Ancient woodland carpets the slopes with bluebells in spring, and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot kingfishers, dragonflies, or brown trout along the riverbank.

Within the grounds, there’s always something to do - from rope swings and gymnastic rings for energetic guests to benches and hammocks for those who prefer a slower pace. The setting is peaceful yet practical, with a welcoming local pub less than a mile away and the market town of Cardigan only 20 minutes by car, offering independent shops, cafés, and coastal adventures.

For beach lovers, the Pembrokeshire coastline awaits: wide sandy bays, dramatic cliffs, and the famed Coastal Path are all within easy reach. And when you return at dusk, the sounds of the countryside - and perhaps a distant alpaca hum - will remind you why this corner of Wales is so easy to fall in love with.
