Making the Most of Your Outside Space

Published on 25 Mar 2025 by Amy Greenwood

It’s March, spring has sprung, and peak season is fast approaching! So, let’s take a look at an often-overlooked space – the garden.

Think of your garden as an extra ‘room’ that enhances your guests’ experience. A well-designed outdoor space can turn a simple stay into something truly memorable, making it an attractive selling feature.

Here are some key ways to make the most of your outside space;

Create a Dog-Friendly Space:

If you have a large garden, section off an area to create a secure space. This will encourage bookings from guests who want peace of mind knowing their dogs can play safely while away from home.

Make it Colourful:

Brighten small spaces with hanging baskets and pots. Opt for low-maintenance varieties and plant a ‘bulb lasagne’ for continuous seasonal blooms. Position tubs and baskets by the front door for a welcoming touch.

Create Comfortable Seating Areas:

Invest in quality, stylish, weather-resistant furniture that will stand the test of time and maintain wooden furniture regularly. Create inviting seating areas surrounded by flowers and greenery. If your garden is a sun trap, provide shade with a pergola, awning, or umbrellas.

Make the Most of Views:

Got great views? Make the most of them! Even if space is limited, a small patio, with a bistro set perfectly positioned to catch the sunset, makes the ideal relaxing drinks spot.

Create an Experience:

A few standout features can elevate your garden and make it a real selling point:

  • Provide a BBQ area, pizza oven, or even a full outdoor kitchen for a unique feature that guests will love.
  • Add a fire pit or chiminea to provide a focal point for guests to gather, toast marshmallows, or relax under the stars.
  • Hang a hammock or swing chair for laid-back holiday vibes

Provide the Ultimate Luxury:

A hot tub can be a game-changer for bookings, especially for romantic getaways. Position it for the best views, and use fencing or landscaping to create a secluded, relaxing experience.

Keep It Tidy!

A well-kept garden is essential. Keep lawns mowed, weeds under control, and paths, patios, and decking clean to prevent slips. Provide storage for outdoor cushions and accessories, and position bins discreetly away from seating areas.

We hope we’ve given you some inspiration – we’ll be back next month with more hints and tips to help you make the most of your holiday cottage.
