Splendid Isolation! Remote Cottages to Get Away From it All

Published on 2 Sep 2024 by Amy Greenwood

Have your days become dominated by the constant ping of notifications, the weight of endless to-do lists, and the relentless pace of modern life? Do you feel a need to slow down, disconnect and get away from it all? If so, a remote, rural holiday cottage might provide just the break you need.

These hidden gems, often nestled in areas with patchy phone reception, provide a much-needed excuse to switch off and indulge in a digital detox; to gaze out of a window rather than stare at a screen, and enjoy the peaceful sound of silence, rather than the constant buzz of notifications.

Surrounded by nature, with far-reaching views across fields and farmland, rural cottages offer the chance to get away from it all and enjoy a restorative escape. Picture yourself taking tranquil walks from the front door, watching birds flit around the garden, stargazing on a clear night, or sipping coffee as the early morning mist rises from the fields. The natural world has an amazing ability to renew and restore – a calming effect that no app can replicate.

Isolated cottages often inspire a desire for slow-living, a yearning to enjoy traditional activities and simple hobbies. Think board games, baking, yoga, and creative arts. These  simple things, like good food, good company, and the joy of a captivating book, are the ultimate antidote to our modern lives.

Whether you’re looking for a creative retreat, yearning for a break from the digital grind, or simply longing for the tranquillity of nature, these remote, secluded hideaways offer the perfect escape to switch off and truly get away from it all.
